Maybe this game has a ray of hope. Hironobu Sakaguchi? Doubtful, considering he works for Mistwalker now, at least to my knowledge. They haven't made anything of significance since The Last Story for the Wii; which sadly didn't do too well. I liked it. The cast of characters was fantastic, the story: serviceable, and the combat was intricate and interesting in my opinion. I think the main problem was it suffered a case of too little too late for a system that was well into it's twilight years as a system. Kind of like what happened to the Gamecube when Twilight Princess came out for it. Fantastic game, but not even that could put the cube back on life support. Hashimoto Shinji is working on XV and he did work on IX.

I hardly see any where I would think to myself: "I wish they gave this more time" or "I had higher expectations in this particular field."

I want a skyrim-esque final fantasy game. Almost like an offline ffxi or ffxiv but instead of autoattacks and menus, it would play more as a vast open world with an open ended story. You could raise your character from the beginning and select a class from the beginning and develop it slowly, you could have party members but they're npc guests that assist. The only online capability would be inviting 2-3 friends into your world to tackle large bosses or hard dungeons but it would scale and wouldnt be requires.
It would be an offline Final Fantasy game, controls and mechanics similar to Skyrim/Fallout(interacting with the environment/combat), summon friends to help dungeons/fights like Dark Souls, npc allies that are somewhat tactical like Dragon's Dogma, and large scale bosses with weak points like dragon's dogma too. Wouldnt you want to play a Skyrim where instead of casting fireball and ligtning you can cast familiar spells like Ultima and Flare? More familiar classes like Red Mage and Dark Knight, cn interact with environment and pick up ingredients from plants and inside caves, ride chocobos. I know ff11 and ff14 are similar but they still play like MMO's and not like a giant sandbox world rpg like Bethesda games. I never played Thief, but I heard about it's custom difficulty menu and would love to see that in every game as well~ I absolutely not want multiplayer to be required for certain content in any non-mmo game. I would be extremely upset.
Forced multiplayer is horrible, I like challenging bosses on my own until I defeat them

After seeing the recent trailer, I continue to be unimpressed with the boy band cast. The gameplay looks fine, but the story and the cast look lackluster.
Final Fantasy XV: Road trip
Also, no playable female characters. What, were they too difficult to animate? Hey if it's anything like the movie Eurotrip it's gonna be awesome!

Final Fantasy Bromance.
Bismarck.Dracondria said: » Well he did say "The theme of the story is said to be "a road trip" and adventure focusing on brotherhood." It's just an odd turn, because from as far back as Final Fantasy II, there's always been at least 2-3 playable female characters. So for them to make this boys only club scenario is odd. At least it's not JUST guys in the cast lol
There's Stella and someone named Luna I think, no idea who she is though Quote: The only thing known so far is that Luna resides in Altissia and Noctis's party is on a road trip to see her. FFX-II only worked because of boobs. Gameplay sucked, ATB sucked, Story sucked, boobs made it ok. Bismarck.Dracondria said: » Noctis's party is on a road trip to see her No boobs. Just a couple of dudes who all look like they're in a boy band.
Artemicion said: » Key word being: playable characters. I know, but at least there are female characters that are important to the story and not just a bunch of dudes I can't be the only one that thinks making an exclusive cast of only male characters playable for the sake of making the theme about "brotherhood" seems like a cheap cop out.
Sure, it fits their objective, but c'mon. This is 2014. Aren't we aiming for general diversity in video games? It also fits with his personality, apparently he's a bit awkward
Quote: Noctis is said to be a shy person, but he initially tries to hide this by "acting cool". According to director Tetsuya Nomura, Noctis will not have the "Cloud-like" personality, but that he will be a type of character not yet been seen in the series, one which Nomura has wanted to try out for a long time. Nomura says Noctis will have a strong and distinctive personality, and will not be a "silent, gloomy little boy". In a Dengeki interview, Nomura explained Noctis is not cool, but rather an ordinary young man who acts tough because he feels it is his duty to protect his kingdom and its citizens. As a result, he sometimes acts rashly or overestimates his strength. Noctis is said to have a rebellious attitude, disliking the strict rules of his kingdom and acting as he pleases, sometimes getting his friends into trouble. Despite this, Noctis is protective of his friends. Three young male characters accompany Noctis: Gladiolus, Ignis and Prompto; their relationship resembles that of the kyodai (brothers) and shatei (little brothers) in the Yakuza hierarchy. The four are later joined by the captain of the Royal Guard, Cor Leonis, who has little patience for their antics. Might explain why he doesn't have any female friends (though not making a playable character later in the game is a bit odd) Artemicion said: » I can't be the only one that thinks making an exclusive cast of only male characters playable for the sake of making the theme about "brotherhood" seems like a cheap cop out. Can't have boobs always save the world, right? Hell, I'd even be okay if they made at least one of the essential female characters playable in some outside instance to show what's going on in separate places. Kind of like ATEs in IX, but playable.
I've always liked it when a story or situation is big enough to warrant jumping person to person, place to place and going through their situation as it happens if nothing in particular was of import with the primary character(s). Mixing up player knowledge, and character knowledge. That kinda thing. FFVI main character is a girl.
FFXI main support characters are all girls. FFXII main character is a girl, although Vaan is the pov. FFXIII main character is a girl. X-2 only female characters. Nothing wrong with an all male pc. And this comes from a woman. Wait, FFVI had a main character?
Didn't they all kept switching, or are you going by the first character in the game (Terra) or after world goes to hell (Ceres)? |
