April 29, 2013 Version Update
Anyone know how the JPs are handling this on the official forums? Are they as mad as everyone else?
Fenrir.Kayalan said: » These new weapons are quite outstanding, and I'm not sure how long the Devs take to actually develop them...but I'm wondering if maybe the fact that Yoichi Wada stepping down as Square Enix President could have something to do with such a substantial change to the content of this game? Just food for thought. The weapons aren't 'outstanding'. They remove relevance from everything that came before - literally everything until r/e/m update. @Enuyasha; Abyssea came with a level upgrade, and even then it didn't make everything from 75 pointless. This update remains within the sphere of level 99, but shits on everything from before - INCLUDING existing 99 weapons. Voren said: » Forget R/E/M, I'm about to quit simply because I can't even get to the update. I've made it as far as the update screen and I et an error. Most of the time I can't even make it past the initial login screen. Loving this update already. One day they'll make some excuse that if they improved the update process the game files would be subject to corruption or something just as preposterous. MMO players are the most self entitled types of gamer Sylph.Mesheef said: » Personally I think SE has been trying to kill ffxi for a while now. Yes you could just kill the game but you would lose a lot of potential ffxi > ffxiv transfers, so what do they do? Make it to where you can literally level every single job and max out merits/stats in less than 2 weeks if you really wanted, Make the r/e/m weapons easier to obtain, then go ahead, and before people decide to get a bunch of top r/e/m weapons, (sorry for the news Rafaras) make all the items fairly easy to get, not like the old days for relic/mythic that keeps a player playing for years. Now it will take a few months to top out the best gear/weapons in the game, game dies due to boredom, SE prays to have everyone move to ffxiv so they can finally shut down 11 and not keep cutting paychecks and supporting dead/old systems. i.e. windows xp. Personally I see it as their push to get us off 11 and move on. No, just no. Sylph.Mesheef said: » Personally I think SE has been trying to kill ffxi for a while now. While I like to repeat the same, I don't really believe it, too much of a difference between FFXI and FFXIV, besides, FFXI probably funded FFXIII, it's sequels, and FFXIV. What I want to know, is what the hell are Seiri and Mesheef smoking? That ***'s going to get you killed. I'd advise stopping. What you're suggesting makes sense from NO angle at all.
Bath salts maybe? Do you even smoke those? Phoenix.Kojo said: » I don't plan on cancelling, but I'm not gonna laugh at him. He's not rage quitting, look at it as something of a boycott. You boycott to tell companies you disagree with their policies, etc. because they won't listen to one man, you hit them in the wallet and that's where they feel the most pain. I'm not participating in this...boycott, if you will, because I have friends I still like doing misc. ***with in this game, but I support these people who are cancelling in protest. In addition to that, I don't see a point in the doing most of the events that I've been doing with the remaining friends I had, considering some of this gear even shits on Salvage II. I had a nice group of 3-4 friends I liked to play with. Specifically Salvage and neo limbus. Now, there's no point, considering the event's are grindy and time consuming, for a reward that looks like is going to be obsolete if SE keeps going forward with this gear ascension. So yeah. €14 is a lot of money for me and I rather not give them to SE for something I'm not happy with. Same reason I didn't buy FFXIII-2, or Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, or any of the games they released in the past 5 years with the exception of Seekers of Adoulin. My main interest in FFXI lies with the lore and story. Considering expansions take at least 2 years to pan out, and relics weren't boosted until the "abyssea saga" was over, I'm just going to take a break for a while and see how things pan out, and maaaybe return when there's enough exciting missions to do in one go and not 8 short cutscenes. If they were trying to kill off FFXI they just wouldn't add anything more would they?
It's stupid spending time and money to create an expansion/update to thin out the player base. Economically it's not viable. They would be better off not creating any further updates and focusing on FFXIV if they wanted us off XI. Your witty and ensightful words have opened my eyes 0.0 It's a patch day. Thousands upon thousands of people just like you are trying to log in at the exact same time you are. Stop being a baby. Hope that was insightful enough for you. Level cap up or not, the same people archetypes will rage quit over nothing and mass exodus at some point for the same reasons, even if its differing circumstances. Until someone obtains one of these new gaudy weapons I have to say that people are just jumping the gun about being angry. In all likelihood, yes, these weapons are just as they look. But since no one has one, there's still the possibility they are not.
Odd though that I should cancel my subscription this morning before the maintenance even happened. If I was a religious man I might take this as some kind of sign lol Toebag said: » If they were trying to kill off FFXI they just wouldn't add anything more would they? I think what the others are trying to say is this is "death by design" The only reason they would want to kill off FFXI is if their equipment, maintenance, staffing, and upkeep costs are exceeding their profit margins -- or they believe they could make more profit by focusing their resources from FFXI to another place.
With as many people playing as still do today, how many SoA copies sold instantly, how many people have multiple characters at +$1/month and mules meaning their paying a full $12+ a month extra. I don't see it likely. I love it how ppl rated me down 1 month ago for predicting this.
§/&$&T your couch guys, i was right. Fenrir.Camiie said: » Toebag said: » If they were trying to kill off FFXI they just wouldn't add anything more would they? Yeah, i'm well aware of that, I was trying to rebuke an earlier post stating SE are trying to push away the player base... on purpose! I've said it before. If they wanted to end it, they simply would. "We're done. Thanks for playing. Please buy our new MMO. We apologize for any inconvenience."

Nobody can learn all of those words. I'm going to bed!" It is not just the weapons.the armor is awesome too and remember that each of them can be given THREE separate augments. It is very likely no gear we have is still best in slot.
