Lately I have been having some problems with ffxi connection, I seem to dc at exactly :58 every hour, I've google searched for hours, had help from friends online, done everything I could to figure it out. All the ports are open and everything. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great, thanks! :)
Edit: I'm losing just the game. Browser and everything else works fine.

Just to be clear do you play FFXI on the same machine you browse with or do you play from a console?

Is it a brief loss of connection?
I know a friend who lives in an apartment building/student accomodation where the router the building has resets/sweeps all the IP's off the list every night at the same time to keep list clean and stop maximum number of IP's the router can handle connecting and taking up the slots.
Could be something similar if you have a familar setup/connection.
If a normal household router. I have no clue.

I will have to agree with what Reece said, if you are on a connection that is being shared in the way he says then that can very possibly happen, if it is a home connection you're using i will be a bit stumped myself as to a possible solution but i will still look into it for a possible fix if it carries on for you.

I live in an apartment yes but it's my own internet, it's not shared by the neighbors or anyone.

How quickly is the connection lost? Is it a slow DC where your % slowly drops and you eventually loose connection or is it a quick one where it nearly instantly kicks you? Does the game crash or do you simply get booted back to the log in screen and can log directly back in?
Do you get any POL errors that you can note?
A consistently timed dc is rather strange, you might check your modem/router settings for a "connection lease time" and see if it's set to roughly an hour? Also what type of internet do you have?

It's a really quick dc, usually about 10 secs. Think the error is 4001.
I've checked all my modem/router setting, lease time set to forever. I unplugged my router/modem, and my dc time reset to the time I plugged them back in lol

Have you called your ISP? If the time it's being reset is exactly an hour after you plug everything in that indicates that something has a lease time, perhaps it's further down the line than just your router?

Could it be something that the ISP is doing to where I lost my game for a few seconds, but nothing else?

There's several types of internet protocols. It could just be affecting certain ones. I should note that even FFXI uses several types at the very same time. So maybe when it's "Down" the only thing that is down is a certain packet type and that causes the DC but the other packets which use another type, can still get through, thus your chatlog still getting through.

I tried plugging in directly to the modem, still got dc at same time. So I guess I can figure out some setting I'm doing wrong, or call my ISP (my last resort because usually they don't care)

Could be that the modem has an issue. The only way we could prove that it's one thing or another is by eliminating the other possibilities. If you say had another pc with FFXI on it that you could try to see if they both dc at the same time or at all. It's possible that something about your computer is causing the issue. Additionally, you could go even farther and download a packet capture device like wireshark and watch for changes as you start to DC but that's rather complicated.

The pc I'm on is rather new, did the same thing on my other pc, modem is making a buzzing noise, which I read means one of the components is probably fried, guessing that's it at this point, lol
