I'm creating this thread to follow the trend for the number of banned accounts and gil frozen each month. This isn't really anything new, but last month (October of 2012) recorded the largest amount of gil frozen ever, freezing more than almost the past 4 months combined.

The blinker nerf is obviously connected to this occurrence, maybe it was getting so out of hand during the month they had to do something about it. This doesn't even touch the shadow of the amount of gil that was being generated by blinkers though.

Data Collection Period Banned Accounts Frozen Gil

On October 31, 2012 when they banned 1,307 accounts, each account had roughly 4,590,666 gil on it

No increase (actually a decrease) in accounts banned, and I don't know of anybody (non-RMT) who's been banned for cruoring. Jumping to conclusions? Come on!

And then the japanese wonder why their game isnt worth anything anymore? When will the japanese learn how to remove their heads from their butts and learn to do what Blizzard has done with Diablo 3? Incredibly stupid people deserve eradication! It would make the world a better place!

I'm honestly surprised by this number, but then again this is likely the amount of gil they were caught with after all, if not most of the transactions have been made. Plus, they only load a character with gil before they sell it.

I would assume that SE banned the people that were on 24/7 and constantly blinkering.

this stuff isn't all blinking..

its far more effective/efficient for rmt's to maximize profits and minimise losses(bans)to just invite (idiots) people to exp - take the the gil from clients (so no need to blinker) onto a toon not burning (norm the town shouter) then buy junk for loads of gil via AH to the offloading mule .. we had 2-3 main ones on Asura making and quickly offloading EVERY DAY about 25m each (pretty blatantly - for about a year) that you could at-least follow via AH sales

then he/they made a few town shouters - so could spam more and varied messages to make people think they were getting more options and choice with who they burnt with - they wasn't

In fact its only since the blinker nerf i have seen a massive influx of naked anon mules all day in aby .. inc 2-3 teams (full allys) or naked anon mules i found in AB-MIS about a week ago

so RMTs obviously have another plan in store now - and they are prepparing to take massive hits if needed

The higher number of account bannings was not only back when the game was more popular and had more subscriptions, but before SE tightened up their payment processing/credit card fraud system.

Alot of new mule RMT accounts are likely still bought with stolen CC numbers and RMT only expect the account to survive a month at best and factor that into their business costs.
To discourage RMT the STF would have to be more aggressive and jail/ban accounts that amass/exchange large amounts of gil in the first days/week.

Its interesting to see the number of account bannings has been roughly the same number for several months, which means there is a consistent presence of RMT (a business) with tried and true methods to build gil (and get caught) that keeps coming back in spite of bannings.
Assuming an equal distribution of RMT across all servers, that would be around 80 active accounts per server constantly working towards amassing gil for sale 24/7 that get caught and banned per month.

Using the population numbers of my server that fluctuate between 1k-2k active players, thats about 1 in 20 people online at any moment are RMT and will get banned at the end of the month... lol

Anyways in b4 who cares the game is dying anyways, etc.

As drastic as that sounds. The 30k+ accounts that were banned were primarily RMT mules and such. Many of those mules are empty until the gil needs to move. So when you ban 33k at 0gil per each. And 1K accounts (or less) with the millions of gil. It's going to drive down your averages considerably.
Also, since the accounts banned during the October ban were mostly loaded. You then again, driving your averages, but this time up.

I would like to see a chart with the highest gil on each account, ranking to the lowest. Or even a chart that specifies how many accounts were holding 0-5k, 6k-50k, ...etc.. to 1m-2m 2.1m-5m and so forth.
For both banned periods.

If they really wanna eliminate RMT make the game FTP and have SE sell their own currency at a cheaper cost than that of any RMT its no competition and RMT could never keep up with SE's ability to print currency at will

1. SE sells cheap, unlimited currency.
2. Prices of items skyrocket.
3. RMT switch from producing gil via NPCs to farming/producing items (marrows/HQ hexed gear) and sell them at the elevated prices.
4. RMT sell their gil cheaper than SE.
5. RMT profit.

Why even sell the gil? They could just sell the items directly. The economy might become stagnant with that though.

That would be an option -- but I can only imagine selling gil is about a billion times easier than selling specific items for RL currency. Gil is universal, and can get someone any item they want.

Though I understand RMTs used to ruin the playing experience of the game "back in the day." However, now I believe SE's main intent for stopping RMT is they receive no money from sales so they won't allow it period.

Won't work. Again, RMT can just flip-flop between creating gil via NPCs when gil has high value, or farming items and selling those at elevated prices if gil has low value.

And in all honesty, I really didn't mind all of the RMT FC shouts. The cruor was nice and it helped me level up random crap I couldn't be bothered doing myself.

Not like the FC shouts negatively impacted anyone anyway, unless you were trying to farm Aby-mis for apkallu eggs -- in which case, you should probably be seeking a better means of income anyway.
