Re: the mythic... The biggest bottleneck isn't even collecting alex, it's farming tokens/ ichor because you need to work with other people. I'd wager by time the OP has collected the King titles, gotten captain, redone all 50 assaults with the journals, SE will have made changes to place mythics on the same "easy-mode" path as relics.
And if they don't, they have an extremely long term goal they can quietly work on at their own pace till they give up, the game ends/ shutdown, or they get it.

Heh, yeah. I haven't done a thing with vnm, maybe I should. I was told a while back that they usually are gear specific and stuff so I never bothered.
As for diversification... I actually spent an entire week straight working on my Oa2-4 dagger from start to finish. I wasn't bugged by its time consumption so I'm sure I can find other things to multitask with as I'm doing more time consuming missions/goals.

Yes they are kind of gear specific. Clears give you Atmacites, Periapts(VW abyssites) and Teleports to the battlefield (and you could also be able to pop the nm if you need).

Thanks. however, I've complete all ZB's and now need to flag the quests to fight shin. I already have Discernment already so its just a few CS quests in order to fight shin.
