I can already taste all the delicious tears that are coming from the other thread. PS2 is here to stay. :D

And there you have it.
I don't see why we need an interview for some people to accept that a game made for the PS2 will continue to support the PS2 for as long as it can.

i love how the japanese worded there bs it should be japanese playstation 2 users, cause i called playonline today and there is currenly no plan for NA PS2 version v.v but they quated (it could change in the future so keep a eye on the expansion site) i won't get my hopes up :/

It wouldn't make sense for them not to at least have a digital release.

Digital release probably... I doubt they can be bothered to make playstation 2 discs since, afaik, no major retailers still carry new Playstation 2 games. Tbh I'm sorta hoping they offer a digital release for PC too, I don't bother buying from the store anymore if I can help it or unless it's an awesome game like Skyrim.

"Reclaim the Land"
Minecraft Did it.

"Geomancer"
Bard Did it.

"Rune Fencer"
WoW did it (Death knight anyone?)

"Instanced Dungeons"
More Moblin Maze Mongers...

"Personal Island Farms"
Runescape Did it.

"Monster Playing"
Pokemon did it? (Okay this is kinda newish actually as far as I can tell so yay?)

All that said I'm actually quite excited to see how this expansion turns out. All in all, I see a lot of ideas used in other games but that makes me hopeful, because frankly they're pretty good ideas. It's seeing whether or not SE manages to do this well, and integrate these ideas into the game properly or not that really make me hesitant to be over excited for this expansion.

Even if that poll showed more NA PS2 players, I don't know how they would have released it. I assume that's what the poll back then was for.

Slightly offtopic, but wouldnt it be great if you could do some kind of quest for an item that lets you do the two hour of another job? Some kind of Magian trial where the end result was your choice of two hour...

all those concepts you named, There were games that did it before the games you listed.

Pretty much every aspect of any game released on a system past Atari has borrowed good ideas from other games. Its not only common practice, its a smart move if done right. Innovate, But look into what is good.

Or were you just going "SIMPSON DID IT" on me >_>?

I think multiple 2-hours is interesting on enemies and boss fights, but that's only because I believe the enemy has to have the upper hand in battle at all times.

As we gain new options for armor, magic, and weapons our potential increases as well, and this reduces the amount of enemies in the game that keep an advantage over players. Once an enemy has lost all advantage in battle and clearly has no chance of winning we are back in Tu'Lia all over again.

What do you mean 'afraid'? That's /exactly/ what's going to happen. They keep popping out 'coming soon' like dangling a carrot on a stick in front of a horse and we (well, some of us) keep paying that monthly fee. Not to beat the dead horse, but yeah. How many /years/ have the Cait Sith and Atomos battle dats been in the game and yet they can't seem to figure out how to add them?

I'm reminded of this image from many years ago, every time I see 'news'.

Back on topic, it's nice to know Geomancer will have two different skills they will need to level up. That's gonna make pretty much every Geomancer that Abyssea leeches to 99 a day or two after the expansion's release pretty worthless for a while. They said something about how the new Geomancy abilities wouldn't be used in any of the current proc !! systems. I'd laugh if you couldn't even enter abyssea on the new jobs, but then again people would just book burn to 99. Meh. /Debbie_Downer off.

I am so coming back to this game... as soon as my poor a** can afford a decent laptop. Only 7 months since I was forced to quit, but looking forward to coming back. New content looks promising.

Unless you plan to oversample, you don't need anything super high tech or expensive to play FFXI, as the system requirements are rather dated. You can probably play it with flying colors on a $300-400 laptop.

Well, I want something with these specs or similar http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0388092. This one is fine but I want a 17" which increases the price a little bit.

I am planing to play also other games (skyrim, assassins creed, etc..) so I want a decent system that will let me play with decent resolution.

They already said the 2-hours were going to be on a shared timer. I'll go try to find the link....unless someone beats me to it.

Merit Point Group 3 Merits and New 2-Hours

Hello.

Previously, we stated that we are developing something to the effect of “merit point category 3,” and we have an update to share with you all. (As stated in the previous post, this is in an early stage of development)

“Merit Point Category 3” is intended to strengthen two-hour abilities and we are also working toward adding new two-hour abilities (*)

*What are new two-hour abilities?
  • We are planning to implement them to the test server in March 2012.
Please look here for a more detailed implementation schedule.

  • The new two-hour abilities are scheduled to have completely different effects, rather than enhanced current two-hour ability effects.

  • The new two-hour abilities will share the same recast timer with current two-hour abilities and we want players to choose them based on the situation.

Here is a revised order of test server implementation:

  1. Raise the level cap to 99

  2. Raise the maximum limit for merit points

  3. Adjust merit points groups 1 and 2

  4. Add new two-hour abilities

  5. Add merit points group 3

We will let you know once we finalize all of the details.

Aside from the general shape when you look from far away, they seem to have nothing in common. The third picture has even less in common.

Atmospherically, SoA (not to be mistaken with Sons of Anarchy) was inspired by mediterranean landscapes and countrysides, as noted from Elmer the Pointy in his subsequent interview after the convention.

i like how they are taking ideas from ff14 to put it on ffxi in a good way, @ the gui. I like it a lot, hopefully they will get rid of the terrible ballista system and put real pvp any time @2013.

I'm pretty sure the play as a monster system is about as close as FFXI is going to get to any PVP anytime in the near future given how screwed up the job system is as far as trying to balance PVP after SE has more or less ignored it for a number of years.

Does work in it's own way though, it allows of competitive play without really needed to take what will soon be 22 jobs into account, dealing with other system limitations, and not imbalance the major PvE focus most job adjustments take into account. I'm actually rather interested to see how it takes place.
