So did WHM and BLM, I don't see your point. WHM and BLM are both useful depending on the game. RDM was always crap.
xi used to be the one place rdm shined! That's just a bedtime story :(

I cant think of a FF game where a dedicated BLM was lackluster.

Runic Fencer. Nice. Better than onion knight for sure!
Perhaps this might just be the mage tank?

It makes sense considering how Runic works, a magic-based tank...

So PLD gets (further) sidelined too. Yay!
Add more, fix less.

I also heard it was a tank job from someone else watching the stream. That certainly would be interesting. Can talk about how PLDs are outclassed again!

Also since they're saying it's a tank job, I think mystic knight is a more fitting name..
It's actually not. Mystic Knight is 魔 法剣士, Rune Fencer that they've announced is 魔 導剣士.

Wait until the English translation comes out before we start throwing out "what this job is." I am sure we have people who speak fluent JP but they arent contributing.
I must say I am very interested in the timeline they are showing. Have to wait about an hour!

Vivi never became useless. Not even against Ozma.
AoE spells were king in most random fights and using Reflect to increase your spell damage was the best way to beat a lot of the tougher enemies.

Why are all you peoplecomplaining "RDM is Dead, this and that" when you do't even know one damn thing about it yet. Stop complainining until 2013, when, you know, it's actually playable, then you can see what it does. Like, seriously...

I'm only joking around about the demise of RDM but the fact is that no other job has fallen so far, so fast.
Paladin comes close but RDM? Looking like a washed up sports star at this point.

Final Fantasy I

Final Fantasy IX (At the end)
Final Fantasy X
Not even close to lackluster.
Final Fantasy I - Warriors did more consistently and didn't die.
Final Fantasy V - SMN did more, Mime did even more again, Freelancer was even better again.
Final Fantasy IX (At the end) - Doomsday was consistently out damaged by any of the 9999 abilities.
Final Fantasy X - Black Magic was pointless and physical attacks with elemental weapons did more. At dark aeons+ you wouldn't touch it.

I don't know about that. I never see PLDs unless they have Empys/Relics/etc but I still see RDMs *** everywhere.
They may not be king anymore but people still use them a lot.

I just went from mildly curious to not sure if want. They compared it to PLD and NIN how both had different approaches to tanking like defense and evasion, and RUN(RNF? lol) will focus on elemental resistance. It also uses runes, they made it sound like expendable items (like cards or tools) but I'm not sure on that one, but they power your abilities toward a particular element, giving both attack and defense properties of that element.

Matt “Bayohne” Hilton
I can’t believe FINAL FANTASY XI turned 10 this year! I’m excited to bring adventurers around the world the up-to-the-minute news as it happens at VanaFest 2012, just as we did previously in 2010. We’ve learned a lot since then and we’re excited to introduce things in a new and unique way, lots of video streaming, more behind-the-scenes and more fun teasers leading up to the show. Adventurers, be sure not to miss all the excitement of VanaFest 2012 because I can say… it’s going to be a big show!
Devin “Camate” Casadey
VanaFest 2010 was a blast and covering the entire event through social media was a lot of fun. This year, since it is the 10th year anniversary, we are kicking it up a notch and broadcasting live and I think it’s going to take this event to a whole new level. I’ll be doing my best to create a really fun and informative live stream so that even our player base back at home in North America can enjoy the event. Make sure to procure some snacks, get your friends together, and tune in, because VanaFest 2012 is going to be amazing and like never before!
Bethany “Rukkirii” Stout
Heya! Your favorite feline rep checking in from the North American Square Enix offices! I will be behind-the-scenes making sure that all of you get the VanaFest details quickly and efficiently.
I can’t wait to see what’s in store for FFXI and I hope you are too!
Paul “Okipuit” Malixi
Your newest Community Rep Okipuit here reporting for duty. I will be holding down the fort at the North American Square Enix headquarters to make sure all the VanaFest coverage is delivered to you in thorough detail and Sharpshot accuracy! We have a great event lined up for you and I’m really looking forward to getting everyone hyped-up as I am for the announcements to come!
Event Schedule
Take a look at the current schedule of events along with their time table in other regions! As you can see, there’s going to be some fun stuff to see and hear about, so use this to help plan which segments of the show you want to see most, so you don’t miss them!
Live CoverageCamate and Bayohne will be live streaming the events of VanaFest 2012, covering the big announcements and taking a behind-the-scenes look at the show floor. On the day of the event, we’ll have two streams active. The Japanese stream will cover the main stage events throughout and will be presented in Japanese only, but will be very useful to follow along with and enjoy the musical performances! The Community Team will be providing updates during that time in as-real-time-as-possible on Twitter and forums. The English video stream will host live reports that summarize the announcements after they’re completed and may include some special guests! |
