Bump~

We're still looking for a few strong and dedicated players to join our community!

For more information, please don't hesitate to PM deshi0, vyii or myself, thanks.

Edit: We are situated on the Carbuncle server, I realize that might not be posted somewhere as clearly.

Oh I miss ballista! I haven't done it in many many years, seems there was very little interest on fairy and now on leviathan :(

Idk why your crew makes such a big deal about 60 caps onry. 99 cap requires just as much, if not more skill and strategy as a 60 caps, and honestly is not as "high end gear" intensive as most people would have you believe.

Honestly i've seen some of the most lack-luster performances from people with relics/emps and what not. Which should go to say that experience/strategy is a lot more important that whatever weapons you have on.

Everyone is so quick to write off 99 cap ballista as unbalanced when in actuality the balance is just shifted. What some jobs gain in Kill speed, some jobs gain in utility.

And while somethings are more easily achieved in 99 cap (such as the capacity to 1 shot, or being able to handle multiple opponents), that doesn't mean there are no strategies to combat jobs with such capabilities. People just aren't willing to put in the time and effort to find the appropriate gear/strategies to do so.

Let's face it, most peoples approach to 99 cap is to step out in your best WS gear and have at it, with little concern about how to actually minimize the efforts of the opponent. When in a lot of cases, having or not having the best loot from endgame events isn't going to determine if you are the most effective ballista player. But people complain about jobs like BLU/COR/BLM/RDM without making the proper examination of why its so effective in 99 cap, and then making the proper preperations/plans to combat it.

In reality, there is no "broken" job in ballista(99). If anything, the transition from capped to uncapped takes ballista from being a game like mario kart to being a game like smash bros. In Mario kart the characters(jobs) you have don't really make much of a difference as much as your racing style( which can only vary so much), items you get and the patterns you can memorize. Vs Smash bros where It's a tiered system. Some characters(jobs) have an immediate edge over others but in the hands of people who are intimate with the advantages and disadvantages of them and have developed play styles, the playing field is almost always equal. no matter the opponent.

I hate name dropping but i'm sure people can relate.

hmm, don't take our love for 60cap as a hate for 99cap. i think there are people that complain about balance in 99 because they get cranked and then give up - we aren't those people.

comparing the caps to mario kart and smash bros is a good analogy that helps illustrate your point about tiers, but these are single player (solo) games and that really illuminates the fact that you don't see ballista as a team game. a better comparison would be to a sports game where everyone on your team is a player on the field. you talk about playstyles or intimate knowledge being the balancer, but we use team work for that.

if you enjoy uncap and think it's great, awesome. really has no effect on us, and vice versa. we enjoy 60, and that's what this thread is about.

Anybody who owns a wii will tell you that that hasn't been the case since maybe N64. and even then both of those games were 10x more fun with your friends. But back to being on topic.

While you may not openly broadcast a distaste for 99 caps, what other message could you be hoping to convey by saying "we only play 60's". I would think that if you truly loved the sport and wanted it to grow then you would should be open to and encouraging participation in all areas.

Your 60 cap community is a very dedicated, supportive and educative bunch but by not endorsing other caps (most particularly 99) you(inadvertently) discourage, if not alienate people who want to participate, or test the waters a bit, instead of diving right off the deep end.

Not everyone is so readily willing to abandon the benefits of all the gear they worked so hard to get when they take a break from endgame to try ballista. And while i just talked about high end gear not being the end all be all for 99 cap, before people can realize that or be open to that idea, and try and make ballista a focal point in their game time, First they have to realize that they like the game. Then perhaps they can decided whether they want to take things to the next level looking at gear/strategy or moving to x serer to enjoy z caps.

When most people talk about trying to revive ballista, they seem to expect people to make up their minds from jump to either go balls in or not play at all. When in actuality, becoming a Rook Buster is more of a gradual process.

Your attitudes of laying out setting of
"Hey if you wanna play with us, we're only going to play like this in this setting, with these rules and restrictions" is kinda like trying to get a virgin in bead and saying "hey we're only gonna do anal"

edit: and i don't hate 60 caps, i used to prefer 60's to no caps. i just think that its not what it used to be. i might make an appearance on carbuncle sooner or later though.

and that's why evv is reaching out with this thread. we already have a community so we're just looking for people that may be interested in what we're interested in.

there's no "revival" or whatever and we totally realize 99% of people don't want to abandon their equipment, etc. but it's worth a shot to reach out, we've actually had a new member come all the way over to our server and join us (and this is player with extremely good endgame stuff), likely because of evv's campaign on forums.

what i meant by single player game is that you fight for yourself and not for a team. maybe double-dash is an exception.. ?

pretty sure there are petjob-only LSs and LSs that only do legion, make sure you give them a piece of your mind too, just to be fair!

Well my original post wasnt as about attacking 60 cap only group as it was about shedding some light on the common misconception that 99 cap = noskill/nobrain unbalanced that most people have. And honestly having played with a fair bit of the remaining ballista community (even evviva and his crew) i know that is the common outlook, even if it goes unsaid usually.

I'd assume that you could see what is implied in the comparison but i think i'm starting to see the disconnect you're having the analogy of the games. My comparison was meant to expand on the ideas of how player choice/setups effect overall gameplay of the games and the cause/effect of strategy/familiarity. And knowing how and where your choices fit in in the overall workings of the game. Not about single-player vs multi-player aspects or being on your own team. Both of these games are multi-player heavy(with team based game variants) and require you to understand the things i just stated, like most non fps multiplayer games.

To say that comparison to a sports game would be slightly less accurate, because in a sports game you represent a team, not an individual. PLAYING sports(or a multiplayer game) requires you to understand your strengths and weaknesses and how you can take advantage of them to benefit your team's strategy and negate your opponents.

^ this. Rest is semantics. Unless our community enjoying 60 cap has an effect on you?

Our community took the time to find appropriate gear and strategies for a specific level cap, which we feel has incredible synergy with the current game of "Ballista".

Your metaphor is one of redundancy. We know perfectly well FFXI players aren't prepared to separate their acquired character affinity just for Ballista. It takes a very open minded person to even -try- Ballista, let alone 60 cap Ballista... but I assure anyone.. Ballista when played to its max potential is the most rewarding and challenging event this game has to offer.

Cool stuff. Though I'd say that page certainly isn't helping Abraham, Anahalal. Whatever. Haha. This entire website excites me greatly and I learned much from it, which was an incredible feeling. This is quite promising there are people this knowledgeable, one day with server merges I hope with Liberator to duel all of them, Burtgangs, Aegis, Ochain, Death Penalties, Blue Mages, Red Mages and all! Thank you Eviva.
Question, how damaging is Liberator in Ballista? im trying to get my friend to come back to the game and he is drk main.

Old video, but to everyone reading this thread and inquiring about Ballista on Undine; don't think for a moment we've forgotten about the idea, however we need more of a response from the FFXI community to create a movement!

Thanks everyone for 10, 000 thread views! Albeit it's not much, but for us, it's a magnificent milestone! :D

A bit of an update on our current situation on Carbuncle;
Our member count continues to rise, and our collective competitive level is reaching staggering heights.

We have 12 solid members as of this post, and we are always looking for more individuals, new or seasoned to join us and experience Ballista as we have since its inception. For more information on our community, please visit the OP, or Our LS website.

All we require is an open mind, and a good attitude.

Our scheduled diorama(hako/mirror match, 2v2 minimum) in-house games are usually most active FRI/SAT/SUN, at roughly 9PM MNT(11PM EST) - likewise, we sneak in some games any day of the week with Japanese players at 7AM MNT(9AM EST).
Level 60 cap official matches for Carbuncle occur mostly during JP time~ (uncap matches don't happen, diorama or official.)

Our NA vs JP games are once a month(sometimes once every week) and are highly competitive, always landing on the weekend.

I humbly thank you for reading, and sincerely welcome any individuals interested in our community to respond to this thread, -or- use the PM function, thanks!

P.S. We are looking for someone able to stream an occasional diorama or official match, please respond if you're interested, thanks!

I am playing many other games including Star Wars: the Old Republic which has some of the most wonderful PvP systems I can think of. from PvP to capture the flag to capture the spots and hold them to team battles to well...its just nuts haha.

Still the decline of the 60s and only uncapps has made it dull. So thus I just have not logged in :(
