Why Do People /yell And /shout?
Why do people /yell and /shout?
... the same message, back to back. Doesn't a /yell cover the zone you're /shouting? I don't understand.
The /yell filter is set to ON at first, so some people may not have the yell filter turned off. It's just so people who might not have it off in the same zone see it.

Originally it was set to on by defalt and then they changed it to off I think, I know at first I had to turn it off everytime I logged in or I wouldn't see any /yells. It's exactlywhat Greggels said, just making sure it gets to people in PJ that have yells filtered.

This is why people do that.
Not everybody fixed their filters to see yells
I always thought it was to shout for zone you are in, and then still get all of jeuno at same time for people not in port.
still to this day when i get on XI I'll frequently run into someone that says "huh, whats this yell thing in my filters? did they just add it today?" a large amount of the playerbase (and honestly, mostly the American and European playerbase) never check updates or question what was just added to game... so still a lot of people that have yells filtered
EDIT: and on that note, a couple times i seen people go from zone to zone shouting in every area XD

/yell isn't filtered by default anymore.

well, depends on how you use it. i once looked for a party only using /yell but i didn't get many tells until i added /shout, guess some people have it on and others off, don't assume that everyone has it on, just because you do lol i honestly don't think you live with everyone in-game to know their /yells is on hehe. BUT UGH! there are those people that love to abuse the system and annoy people thats for sure! :P

I have /yell filtered on my main char, never set it to that just how it always was, too lazy to change it.
My mule can see /yell, and I did nothing to that one either, was set to that by default
