Also i find it a bit ridiculous that your sister was tossed out. i guess it just depends on how old she was... if you mind telling me i might feel better. but anything under 18 is just wrong. Saying "no offense" doesn't make what you say magically unoffensive. Personally, I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that you could be doing more productive things in high school than working at fast food. That's not exactly special be any stretch of the imagination. But to flat out say that it's "below" you? In my mind, arrogance doesn't cover it. To follow that up with asking someone to explain the circumstances of their sister being kicked out of home so that you might feel better is just... beyond me. It's too bad that, as a child, you never had a work experience that taught you humility. But, oh well - I guess you were too busy curing cancer and solving the world's troubles when you were 17, right? yes but by saying no offense i was stating that i wasnt trying to be a ***. so with all do respect, your mother (sarcasm if you couldnt figure that one out) second you dont know me. i already said i had a job as a kid. i also had a few extra curriculars while is HS so learn to read a thread before you say ***that isn't correct. and sorry if hearing that a kid was basically abandoned while still in HS makes me feel a little sad because ive known ppl who that has happened to. it doesnt make me a bad person to ask if there was ***she left out that might make it sound like it wasnt a horrible experience for her sister. seriously you have some nerve. Hang on. That entire first part doesn't actually make sense, but I do see "your mother." Please, feel free to explain what you're saying - sarcasm or not. Second, I don't care if you had a job, a disabled family member to care, a puppy rescue, and a hundred thousand hobbies. "Working fast food is below me" is "working fast food is below me." If you meant "I was really busy with other activities," you might have said, "I was really busy with other activities." But remember, what you said was: "Working fast food is below me." You're also wrong about me knowing you. I know exactly enough about you: I wouldn't hire you, or ask you for a job. I wouldn't help you if you asked for it, nor would I ask you to help me. I wouldn't lend you money, or borrow. I wouldn't trust anything of mine with you, and wouldn't care for anything of yours. I don't really think there's anything else that I need to know. And again, here there was a breakdown of communication. And it could totally be my fault. "I find it a bit ridiculous that your sister was tossed out" didn't appear to me, at all, like "hearing that a kid was basically abandoned while still in HS makes me feel a little sad." You say you knew people who had to experience similar things? Here, let me rewrite that for you (feel free to copy this into the thread.) Quote: Oh, what happened to your sister sounds terrible. I know what it's like, having known similar things happen to people that I was close to. Was it really as bad as it sounds? I hope not - it's really tragic! You're welcome. I'm through. Lol because i think i can do better things with my time then work fast food you think you know enough about me? ya sure buddy. all i read in that second paragraph was you basically saying you were above me as a person. And by the way liela worded her post it did seem to me "Ridiculous" that her sister got tossed out. because in the way she portrayed it and by all the key things she left out. like that she was given to her step mom. I wouldn't be caught dead working in fast food, but I don't count Dunkin Donuts as fast food, lol. the only dunkin donuts we have here is in a 7/11... and its not even real D: just a corner full of there coffee/donuts. it sucks. even Krispy Kreme didnt survive here. I remember through all of my K-12 years, all of my teachers told us stuff like, "if you do your work and go to college, you won't have to flip burgers for the rest of your life! Do you want to do that? I didn't think so!" obviously paraphrased, but you get my point.
It's not that kids are over-privileged and bratty imo(sometimes -- there are cases where yeah, they're like that for sure). They're pretty much taught that they deserve more than just a fast food job. If you really want to be angry at someone over it, be angry at the adults who taught them that they do deserve more than just a fast food job. I'm sorry. Anything I said about Phenomena was said with way too much haste, and in all likelihood, is just me not understanding what was meant. And, even I am dead on right, this isn't really the place to get into an argument, and nothing is served by me judging someone in public like that. I'm sorry, ffxiah, and I'm very sorry, Phenomena.

Viral or not, he could very well expect that he was going to embarrass his kid, which he even said was the point on the video. and stuff like this tends to be fodder for bullying. There are very different levels of embarrassment going on at work here. The father might be somewhat embarrassed for having his kid do something on her facebook that was an open act of defiance. And that's stretching it, she was complaining about chores. The girl is going to hear about it everyday at school. I don't think parent's should be in the business of one upping their kids. I'm not calling for his head, and you're right to some extent that its his business, and his business alone. But he brought punishment into the public eye, accidentally or intentionally. I don't think he should be celebrated for it. So....it's done and over. Parent's know how to get to their children....who the hell are we to judge his actions? I believe that, the girl said she deserves even more punishment and she should have her phone shot. lol what?
In all seriousness my complaint is about the publicity. Punishment is a necessary but regrettable event. Its not something that should be celebrated publicly. I don't celebrate when someone goes to prison, I think trials should be public to ensure fair trials, not to taunt the offender. Fenrir.Terminus said: » I'm sorry. It's freaking crazy! I go to sleep at 10 every night because I'm too tired to stay up any longer to do anything else. I have to get up at 5 every morning to get ready for school. On the weekends I have to sleep with my door locked so my little brother won't come get me up at 6. This is all true. And I'm tired of this ***. People do things that they regret. especially maybe because something happened to her at school and then she decided when she got home to take it out on her parents. who knows. its not uncommon for when you cool down to totally be embarrassed and disgusted by how you acted and for the people you embarrassed during your little episode. though i think it was obvious sarcasm about him shooting her phone. and a joke between them. I think she can be disgusted with how she acted in retrospect for sure. I think it's a little naive to say everything is hunky-dori with them, and she thinks its a big joke he embarrassed her on the internet.

Meh. honestly the only people who know her are the people on her FB and whoever else saw it at her HS, i doubt she got teased for it for longer than a few days before a cat video came out and they all forgot about it. its not like that will travel with her forever. i mean all we know is her first name. I don't know if anyone brought this up, but after seeing this article, I'm glad for what this parent (from OP) did.
well in her defense about one thing, parents can make their own damn coffee..

Valefor.Slipispsycho said: » Sydney Spies sounds like a porn star name. yes it does. Heh, she'd have really thrown a fit if she lived in my childhood home. The kids washed the dishes, table, counter, and stove after every single meal, and we didn't have a dishwasher. There were three of us, and between us it took maybe 15 or 20 minutes and we still had plenty of time to enjoy ourselves. Big deal.
If you don't do your job and parent your children correctly, they could end up flipping people off at the Super Bowl. You don't want that, now do you?

Leviathan.Hohenheim said: » well in her defense about one thing, parents can make their own damn coffee.. I saw that as more of a favor kind of thing. Like, "could you make me some coffee?" and not "make me some coffee this instant". Probably an exaggeration on her part to get a certain response from her facebook friends. If it violated the dress code, then it shouldn't be her senior picture. (Don't get me wrong, some dress codes can be stupid. Like one in my high school that forbade shirts that showed any belly when you stuck your arms straight up in the air. Why, because we all walk around with our arms straight up in the air all day? >.> Really. Just not showing belly in a normal, everyday, non-contorted pose is good enough.) But anyways! The article said the yearbook staff offered to put it in the back with other candid shots or something instead of as her senior picture, and I guess she wouldn't take the deal. Not gonna lie, I think the outfit is inappropriate for school and given the fact that they allowed her to submit another photo instead, well, I don't really feel sorry for her.
