In the lol thread. Fitting.
![]() edit: /page Whenever I got frustrated with my parents growing up I just thought back to this song and remembered how well I had it.
Finally got around to watching it..
I'd probably do the same thing, except make my kid watch me destroy whatever. I hate spoiled kids, I was one up til about 12 or 13, and even now some of those traits are hard to break (total lack of patience for example, or having to do things exactly my way) I look back on some of the things I pulled when I was a kid and wasn't getting my way and I'm actually disgusted by myself. Retail, waiting tables, bussing tables, checking out groceries, whatever? Kids nowadays think that working at McDonald's is a 2nd rate job and not good enough for them.... hey its a job, and even working at McDonald's builds character and even can be fun and make lots of friends too! If you ask me, tbh, there will always be something wrong, if a child whose 16, doesn't think that bussing tables, like what Krizz said, is too good for them.. take away certain things that a child thinks is a right to them, and that will make them work to make money! Not every kid needs to get a job. the only reason why i got a job was because my mom went back to college and we were low on money. Most my friends did extra curricular activities (i only did JROTC) and we were all in AP classes (Just math and science for me hence my bad english/grammar) ya my spelling is awful... to me its either a job or more ***for school. or sports Insert "You mad bro?"
Odin.Liela said: » Damn you, Kindle! You don't even smell like a book! And librarians never retire so new ones aren't needed. Ever. 1. Invent "Book" scents. (Multiple varieties of course, for people who like old book, new book, glossy page/text book, etc.) 2. Apply to special Kindle cover. 3. ??? 4. Profit Then you won't have to worry about being a librarian because you can afford to do whatever you want. And my cousin works as a librarian, and she's only 25! As for the topic about college vs. experience, I'd say it's a fair mix of both, with a bit of motivation and networking thrown in. I was going to type out a real-life example to show how they all link together, but I'll just summarize it as this: My friend and I have the same Associate's degree. He has an awesome job as a Senior Developer (software) at a major insurance company, while I've been managing retail for the last few years, considering various combinations of certifications and additional college classes just so I can get my foot in the door somewhere. My parents actually wouldn't let my siblings and me get jobs. When my dad was in high school he quit the football team to take a job and regretted it, so even if we didn't play sports we weren't allowed to take jobs because it might interfere with something else we liked, I guess. One of the issues that led up to my sister getting kicked out is that she was sick of not being able to pay for her own things, so she went behind our folks' back and got a job working at an Alco store. It's kinda like a Wal-mart for small towns. That led her to be able to buy makeup, (which we weren't allowed to have) which in turn led her to find other ways to feel pretty too, which led to cutting her hair (which we weren't allowed to do) and so on and so forth until she got kicked to the curb with a suitcase and her dog.
Having a job isn't a slavery for kids. It's a freedom. So by the time I married and moved out, I was so desperate to work anywhere that I took a job at A&W. And to this day, when people look down their pointy little noses at me for having worked fast food, I have to say that it was the best job I've had to date. The work was hard and leaning over grills and fryers all day could get just brutally hot and I stank of fry oil all the time, even after bathing, and I came home sometimes and cried because my feet hurt because the uniform's shoes were hard to stand on all day, don't get me wrong. And lord knows the customers can be rude, mean, and downright cruel. But my coworkers there were the nicest, funniest, funnest, most happy and laid back people I've ever worked with. I've never had as good of relationships with any other coworkers at any other job than I did at A&W. Any kid that thinks working fast food is 'below' them is a spoiled rotten, over-privileged brat. Hey, I think being a teenager was tough, i did stupid ***i know full well now was wrong then. because some teenager posted some stupid ***on a facebook wall because they were mad at their parents deserves the kid getting her dad humiliating her in front of the entire country is a good thing.
Parents don't own their kids. Parents are responsible for their kids. Kids should treat their parents with respect, parents should treat their kids with understanding and respect. That's part of being a parent. I think she should have been punished, but I also think there were better ways. Working fast food is below me. and was when i was in HS. no offense but i can do more productive things other than that.
Also i find it a bit ridiculous that your sister was tossed out. i guess it just depends on how old she was... if you mind telling me i might feel better. but anything under 18 is just wrong. I would agree with you, except the father stated that this was not the first time she'd been punished for something very similar. He also kind of had to get rough, because he had told her previously if she did that again the consequences would be more serious the next time. If he had not made good on his threat to make it worse than just taking her laptop away for a few months (which had been the previous punishment) then she would have realized he wasn't serious about making her behave and she would have done it again. (I think.) Like i think multiple ppl have said so far that the only thing he did that was overboard was shooting the laptop lol. but it does drive a point across. like... 3 months later she cant say "Dad can i please have my laptop back? i promise i will be better, havent i done better?" lol as if we all havent said that before. Edit: thought selling it would of been the same. also if parents dont get rough kids dont learn. they do the same ***over and over until they get hit with some truth... right in the D!c. Also i find it a bit ridiculous that your sister was tossed out. i guess it just depends on how old she was... if you mind telling me i might feel better. but anything under 18 is just wrong. She was 16. And I should clarify-- they didn't just kick her out to fend for herself. They took her to my mom's house and dumped her on the doorstep. (It was my dad and stepmom that we were living with.) We hadn't seen our biological mother in over a decade at that time, and we'd been told she was a horrible evil rotten etc person, so my sister was terrified at being left with her, but not as terrified as she would have been just out on the streets. And it ended up being just about the best thing that ever happened to her anyways, because our birth mother was not in fact terrible or evil or anything else that we'd been told. She was overjoyed to have my sister back. On the fast food thing, I probably wouldn't work there now, given that I have other job experience and a degree and all that junk so I have the ability (hopefully) to get a better job. But for a teenager, I think it's just fine for their first job. And this is probably just because I have been there and done that, but I kind of think everyone should experience working fast food at one point in their lives, even for just a week or two, just so they will be nicer to fast food workers. You would not believe some of the cruelty that customers think it's ok to hurl at fast food people. It's astounding. Kids doing bad things deserve punishment, and in this case stronger punishment because she was already warned. But I don't think parents should be in the business of one upping their children either.
Of course it doesn't fit, but the father had no intent of it going viral. It went viral because there's a strong sentiment in regards to punishing children. I think had it not gone viral, it would've been an apt slap on the wrist... but the plans of mice and men.

She posted a letter portraying her parents in a bad light on the internet. the father simply corrected her letter to show the truth. the fact that it went viral was a bonus. he did nothing wrong and i hope she learned her lesson. He supposedly worked in IT. He should have known ***like that could happen. I think it went viral because it's ridiculous and over the top, not because parents are looking for some way to quell the uprising of rebelling teens threatening to take over the nation.
And with regards to her begging for her laptop back, he could have easily just said no. That's being a responsible adult sticking to your word. Sure, he knew it could happen, and you also know you could win the lottery by just by playing once. It's unlikely though.
Videos of cats sleeping get 20 million views, its not as hard as it might appear lol
Indeed, and there are also people that make a living off of Youtube channels, and many hundreds that fail at it. The internet is a strange and unpredictable place. Sure, there are common themes... but cat videos rarely go, truly, viral. They don't spark large debates, news stories (Okay, some might but... seriously, 99% of it is fluff.), hundreds of threads on forums, etc.

Yes.. But sometimes, as a parent, you have to go extreme to get it through their thick damn skulls. As far as we know, he didn't beat her or worse, so I don't think it's really anybody's place to judge his actions. All he did was show her and all her friends that she's not top *** like she thinks she is and destroy his own property . That's just my 2 cents anyways. Saying "no offense" doesn't make what you say magically unoffensive. Personally, I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that you could be doing more productive things in high school than working at fast food. That's not exactly special be any stretch of the imagination. But to flat out say that it's "below" you? In my mind, arrogance doesn't cover it. To follow that up with asking someone to explain the circumstances of their sister being kicked out of home so that you might feel better is just... beyond me. It's too bad that, as a child, you never had a work experience that taught you humility. But, oh well - I guess you were too busy curing cancer and solving the world's troubles when you were 17, right? yes but by saying no offense i was stating that i wasnt trying to be a ***. so with all do respect, your mother (sarcasm if you couldnt figure that one out) second you dont know me. i already said i had a job as a kid. i also had a few extra curriculars while is HS so learn to read a thread before you say ***that isn't correct. and sorry if hearing that a kid was basically abandoned while still in HS makes me feel a little sad because ive known ppl who that has happened to. it doesnt make me a bad person to ask if there was ***she left out that might make it sound like it wasnt a horrible experience for her sister. seriously you have some nerve. Lame-o Friday night! Anyway...

Everyone does have to start somewhere, and yeah, a lot of people can do better than that, but no need to be snarky about people's work experience. Some people don't grow up in metropolitain areas where a lot is offered. I loved my first job. I taught combination dance for pre-K kids, ballet, and first year point. It was a breeze! In college, I waited tables. Customer service jobs are a ***! At least I have the know how hard it truly is and what servers are actually paid. NEVER EVER walk out on a restaurant, and tip well! By eugene i think you mean me. anyways just because i said working fast food was "Beneath me" i didnt mean that the people who worked there were beneath me. also let me explain what i meant by "beneath me" what i meant was that working at a Ff joint wasnt going to teach me anything at the time i was in HS. and working there would of done nothing productive for me besides get me money. which i had other ways of making and that would actually teach me things that i did not already know. So i guess what i meant was that working at a ff joint was useless for me because the useful things that it could of taught me i already knew. Edit: you corrected yourself lol Leviathan.Phenomena said: » you corrected yourself lol Yeah...Got mixed up for a sec. :/ I hated all jobs, especially retail, I had until I worked at an Exxon pumping gas during college break. That was the first job I loved. The rest I hated with a passion.
I wouldn't be caught dead working in fast food, but I don't count Dunkin Donuts as fast food, lol. |
