Speed Demos Archive is hosting a video game speed-running marathon for donations for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. It has only been running for ~9hrs so far and will last 127 hours total and they've already raised over $12,000 of their initially proposed goal of $50,000.

The stream is available on the front page of the link above. If you're interested in watching a particular game, check out their schedule of games here. As far as Final Fantasy is concerned... FF7 is on the list this year, for FF7 haters, FF3(US) was on last year, so no hating!

In a couple of hours, they will be playing Metal Gear Solid, currently they're playing Vanquish(I've never heard of it, but looks interesting).

So come and donate, or if you don't have any money, you're also free to watch the fun!

Been rolling for 20 and a half hours so far, still over 100 hours left of gaming.

Right now they're playing a bunch of Ninja games - Shinobi 3, Shinobi PS2, Ninja Gaiden for NES, then Ninja Gaiden 3. Mid afternoon will show some Sonic games, and then later on tonight will be some games from the Mega Man Series. One game to look out for today is Battletoads which, if anyone's ever played it, you can imagine is a difficult game to speedrun let alone beat it.

They've raised over $17,000 now, all of which will go to the Prevent Cancer Foundation. If you're bored, come check it out!

Over $23,000 in donations so far. Couple more Sonic games, then the Mega Man series starts in ~2hrs with Mega Man 2.

If you can't donate(or even if you can), spread the word about this event to anyone you'd think would be interested. It's for a good cause and fun to watch if you're bored.

Their initial goal of $50,000 has been passed and they are now at $58,000 with a new goal of $80,000.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is coming up in just a minute. Games to look out for today: Metroid Zero Mission, Super Metroid, Zelda 1, Final Fantasy 7 (Disc 1), then Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Final Fantasy 7 will start at 1:45 EST this afternoon - or in about 3 hours.

It's now on the final game of the marathon, which is the final two disks of Final Fantasy 7.

The goal of $80,000 was passed and they set a new goal of $125k. Now that it has just passed that - it's $125,700 - there is a new goal of $135k.

Thanks to those who have watched and donated! And if you're just now seeing this, there's still ~5hrs to come and watch the show!

Another speedrunners marathon coming up in 13 hours by this same group of people. http://marathon.speeddemosarchive.com/upcoming and their schedule of games is: http://marathon.speeddemosarchive.com/schedule

Check out the schedule for a game you want to see and check it out. Fun to watch and for a good cause - Prevent Cancer Foundation.

The Final Fantasy game they chose this year is Final Fantasy 9, which from what I've seen is a lot of people's favorites. So come and watch it played as fast as possible along with tons of other great games!

The blindfolded games were incredible. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

They're currently doing a Ocarina of Time race.

Here's the schedule if you want to show up for a particular game: http://gamesdonequick.com/schedule

Edit: Totally didn't see the link a few posts up. Oh well, I'm just reinforcing that you should click it and find something to watch.

For real, zallard1's blindfolded Super Punch-Out was just insane. I just missed some of the Mike Tyson's Punch-Out run, but going to watch it some time today.

The main event is over, but at noon EST today they will be having a bonus event where the runners who are still around will be playing even more of their games.

The donations reached a total of $1,006,990.00, just over one million dollars, all of which goes to the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Every year that they've done this they've reached and surpassed their donation goals. It's always amazing to see how far up they'll go.

My personal favourites of the marathon were:
Blind-folded Punch-Out and Super Punch-Out: http://www.twitch.tv/speeddemosarchivesda/b/494222408
4-player Super Metroid Race: http://www.twitch.tv/speeddemosarchivesda/b/494222408 Same URL, but ~@7:50:00

Since of course I didn't get to see the whole thing yet, I'll be watching it over again and adding what more personal favorites I had.

T-shirts sales (~45k $) and Humble Bundle (~200k $) were added during the marathon and is already counted in the 1.15M.

If there's a run you absolutely have to see, it's the Ninja Gaiden relay race, it was amazing.

I was impressed with everything I watched. I'm definitely following these regularly from now on. Hell, I even dusted off my N64 and started playing again!
