No, I mean flipping it so that you're using khepri with 3 and anwig with 4/5. I'm skeptical about 6-second CW3 if for no other reason than JA delay.

I'll wait to see what Byrth comes up with, though!

I've still never wanted reduced waltz recast while using Fan Dance, but I actively avoid situations where I'm losing the equivalent my entire HP pool every 20 seconds unless I have a healer.

Well, there's the rub; I'm not on DNC for the situations where I have a healer.

EDIT: I still think the PDT set Byrth mentioned, PDT daggers, Fan Dance, and Counterstance as DNC/MNK would be hilarious but I can't think of any situation where I'd actually use it.

Also, waiting to get to 400hp before waltzing is rather risky, and if you aren't, then you are wasting tp and you would be better off with waltz3.

Yes, in real-world situations, 4 is probably more practical.

Unfortunately if the subject of this guide were "when is DNC the optimal choice," it would be a really short guide, so I make recommendations based on the premise that you're going to be using DNC for (insert event here) unless the innate qualities of DNC prevent it from being used in that event entirely.

Regarding 5/5 Fan Dance, it seems that most people do not have an issue with staying alive in situations where they use Fan Dance without reduced waltz recast timers. Additionally, these situations are generally handled better in a different manner or actively avoided.

It's also worth mentioning that ... we're talking about emergency situations here .... which tend to come at a much lower rate than the recast of Fan Dance - if you're talking about something that is relevant 2-3 times a Dynamis Run ... Trance is on a 1hr recast now and will be on a 30 minute recast in the future.

I'll mention it when I recompile the front page, but I still don't advocate 5/5 for general use.

Turns out CWIII is still the most time efficient, but you lose 1/3 of your TP time waiting on JA delay. I think it's not possible with any set of buffs (and no Haste Samba) to gain >45 TP in 4 seconds. Even when I'm tanking multiple monsters, though, the amount of HP that I overcure with CW4/5 is pretty substantial. With Anwig, I cure 512 HP per Waltz III and 794 with Waltz IV and 1039 with Waltz V.

I have 1250 HP on DNC/NIN, so that's <750, <450, and <200 respectively. I could see using Waltz IV efficiently maybe if I'm fighting a lot of things that don't have bad TP moves. It is pretty much impossible to be efficient with Waltz V.

Realistically, if I had Fan Dance then I would probably use Waltz III with Khepri hat on (8 second recast, same as without Fan Dance), meaning that Fan Dance 2/5~5/5 actually gives me +6.6% Waltz HP (546/512) rather than -20% recast.

Shitting around. ^_^ Always a good reason.
I mean, I have hundreds of millions of gil in WHM melee gear.

I'm sure somebody will think this is face-saving, but that's good enough for me. We just hadn't talked post-Etoile +2 merits at all.

EDIT: Countered hits don't strip a layer of Fan Dance! POSSIBILITIES

EDITx2: Solo-cleaving Tahrongi (without the PDT daggers, of course)? You're losing 24 MAB from /notRDM but that's hardly the end of the world.

At that point, you could have just subbed NIN and forgone the PDT daggers and Fan Dance all together.

Seems plausible for fights that pop a lot of adds you would have no other way to control.

ZNM is the one that immediately springs to mind* but I've never tried to solo a Pandemonium Warden popset, so.

*and iirc a lot of those dudes have physical TP moves that strip/ignore shadows anyway

I think in all cases of add-popping in ZNM the adds nuke.

I used DNC/MNK on old salvage runs because it let me afk between cures longer and counterstance was the best damage I could get against large pulls. It will kill you without a healer though, probably.

How much HP did you get as a taru DNC/MNK?

I love how people are like "the difference between a taru and a galka at 99 is like 11 STR! Not a big deal!" while ignoring that they have 400+ HP more than you, like that doesn't matter.

And ignoring that a mere 11 STR is merely worth >500mil in many of the top WS sets.

Sorry that I missed the merit debate but I wanted to share my 2 cents. I like Thoraeon's argument about the 18sec more duration of Haste Samba on 5/5 SD so I might stick to some extra merits in SD. However I'm also tempted by Closed Position merely because of the advent of Adoulin. I really, really hope we'll get some good old fashioned high lvl content that'll be reminiscent of how WotG felt at 75 with some new fun solo challenges that don't hinge on silly buffs like atma/cites etc. In a world like that, I can see Closed Position gaining some merit again. In a world of daily Dyna solo/duos, I'll bow to Thoraeon's reasoning.

murzim manopolas or brego gloves for TP? Bearing in mind I have had zero accuracy issues on anything.

Brego will probably be better outside of Abyssea, Murzim would be better inside.

Is the difference in damage output marginal enough to warrant selling the Brego Gloves once I get Murzim and putting the gil to better use elsewhere as well as liberating an inventory space? Or is the difference sufficient enough for me to keep Brego anyway?

And thanks for the quick answer as always Byrth!

I do jack ***in Abyssea anymore, so I'd store Murzim and keep using Brego. Skadi +1 will serve you better than either.

There's that nasty Salvage word again... I'll add that to my list of things to get done, then. Meanwhile I will stick with Brego. Thanks for the help.

I saw someone with the Defense down magian dagger today, and I was curious how it compared to Str-magian, so I plugged it into the spreadsheet.

On Dynamis-DC, for Dnc/Thf it actually appears to pull ahead by about 4-6%.

I remember when I had the defense down polearm for Drg, and those weapons have a very high proc rate, so I figured I would ask other people's thoughts on this.

On a side note, do you think it would be worth it to have an OA2-4 to do WS mobs if JA mobs are crowded in Dynamis?
