Max reasonably obtainable exenterator atm vs. DC in dynamis (~436 defense) using Red Curry Buns.

1.) Body: Tarutaru should use Toci's. Everyone else should use Tabard unless you've Twashtar 99.

2.) Rings: Twashtar 99 should use Epona's.

3.) Earring: Auster's pearl beats Aesir, but Aesir beats drone. Auster's pearl is so incredibly rare that I don't consider it to be particularly 'reasonable' to obtain, at least on my server. This is probably true for a lot of servers. If it's not hard to get, then by all means.
Athos body isn't that easy to get lol. I am about 0/25 on that hoe lol...Stupid staff all over. But is anguinis belt a bad option for the waist? I also started using cuahti +1. Those bad options lol?

Athos body isn't too bad to get, you just need people who actually proc in a timely manner and a leader who doesn't insist that the BRDs sing Min/Mad.

This is like me dressing my mannequin in one, and then leaving two Mekira Mekiogai to rot in the chest before getting Mantis Eye.

There are many reasons a lot of people don't think you're very smart. This is one of them.

We have only failed say 2x. But got him right on the next kill. BRD isn't needed for botolus. How does that make me stupid lol?

Why wouldn't you take BRD to VW in the first place? The support they provide is invaluable and they offer an array of unique magic staggers.

Botulus Rex is VW. You should have a BRD.

THE POINT IS. It isn't NEEDED. 1-2 Magic staggers and botolus is dead if everyone uses their temps at the proper times. I make PUG all the time, and YES I do find a bard.

When it comes to VW, I consider "making things go much more smoothly" and "needed" to be more or less equivalent in meaning.

Void watch isn't Void watch?
You don't use the bard that you do use?

What?

I basically know 3 viable strategies with Rex:

1.) Melee Zerg (only works for highly skilled upper-tier linkshells, really)

**I have no experience with this strategy so I can't say for sure what is involved.

2.) BLM tank/zerg

Scherzo+Earthen armor on at least one party of BLMs. Wildfire CORs + RNGs and a DD/proc party consisting at least of WAR NIN WHM BLU fill out remaining slots. High success rate with skilled players. BLMs tank and Zerg Rex.

3.) Random BLMs and WF Cors/RNG, Random melees / other mages to proc

Low success rate. Lots of deaths. Tends to be the PUG strategy.

Lol let me be more clear. Botolus Rex, I have never seen a bard on him and from my experience of killing him over 20x, says that bard isn't NEEDED. On every other Void watch notorious monster, I tend to find/see a bard in my pickup group, because they give beneficial songs and offer unique procs. Happy? If you want to go with a bard for botolus, I can understand that. I'm just saying, from my experience, a cor offers more to the party for THAT given NM.

I'm quite curious as to your success rate on Botulus ((Wins/(Wins+losses)) as well as how often it dies with capped lights.

We had a run where we killed him 4x with say 2-3 deaths a kill. And then went 3/4 on the next run. The deaths came basically from chainspell x2 meteor before a mage got the chance to stun and us to get fools up. I personally have died only when the tanks and black mages died. Or the thing turns at me and the blms don't stun a blizzaja and it's in physical mode, so I'm using fanatics. The fight isn't that hard with blm/cor/war/whm setup. Just have to use proper temps. My server only believes in red light caped and kill, so a few red staggers and walla. Never hold off on damage regardless of the situation.

This didn't really answer my question.

Forgive me if I'm skeptical, but pretty much everyone else's experiences with PUG Botulus Rex are contrary to your tale.

*PUG = Non-JP PUG Rex.

JP groups never fail. But they use EA+Scherzo BLM tanks.

K basically if your in a group and your party members are too lazy to read the big letters on your screen with a call saying "CHAINSPELL USE YOUR FOOLS DRINK"....then there will be deaths and you will fail. I have failed maybe 3-4 botolus because certain groups don't pay attention.

I also find it exceedingly hard to believe that it's dying in 2 staggers only.

I know that people have to use chainspell at the right time, I'm not an idiot.

I think you're exaggerating and setting an unrealistic standard of what to expect from the Botulus Rex fight for people who haven't fought it before.

It is true however that if Botulus Rex is taking more than ~5 minutes, it's more likely to be a 15+ minute wipe than a 15+ minute messy win.

K lemme break down exactly how we do fight. Start fight, war tank. War pops fanatics and other temps and they start to kill. NOONE touch botolus unless you have fanatics up. Then when you see chainspell, you have a MACRO made for fools and use it right away. During this whole time, everyone just keeps killing and finding procs. Get a proc, rinse repeat with fanatics/fools cycle. And yes fanatics and fools last long enough where the 2 staggers give you time to kill botolus. How is that so hard to believe lol? Every proc = 2 minutes of invincibility, mainly because by the time fanatics wears, it's using chainspell and vice-versa.

"If you haven't fought it before". It's perfectly understandable to whipe first time you do botolus if you have alot of people who haven't done the NM.

Are you doing this with an experienced group or with a PUG? Because I'm still under the impression that you're doing it with a PUG, and that's not going to happen with a PUG.

And to be clear, the macro for chainspell + fools is common knowledge. Even the dumbest of pick up groups wipe a max of one time to chainspell.

Well mainly half the group is one linkshell, and then they fill the rest with experienced VW people. It's basically "If your gimp, gtfo". The leader doesn't invite a blm that doesn't have +2 and some elemental staffs, or a corsair without armageddon, or a warrior without ukon/relic.
