I think I first read those books in grade 3 or something. The stories themselves weren't that scary, it was the pictures that got to me. (Look at his book "In a dark, dark room" vs the "Scary Stories" books.. it's totally the pictures that make the difference). Even now they scare the crap out of me x.x Kinda makes me sad thinking of the shitstorm most parents would make now if something like that popped up in an elementary school. Even cartoons were better in the 80s :(
