"Gimp"

I dat swapped my taipans to veres and ascetic's to smite so I can pretend I'm cool and not-gimp :)

Anyway, I don't mind gimps and I won't call anyone out on it (I consider myself gimp anyway; pot calling kettle and all that). People can choose to play the game however they like.

However, I personally prefer bigger damage numbers and being as effective as I can be given whatever limitations I might have on obtaining gear. That's why I frequently lurk these forums: to try to get a better understanding of the game mechanics and getting ideas on what to work towards. I don't know everything, but I can at least make the effort to learn from people who do know things.

The information's available to everyone; might as well use it.

Though it makes me :( when people act like getting empyreans/black belts and other top gear takes .0000000000002 seconds to obtain, can be soloed and takes zero effort. If it were at all true, this thread wouldn't exist. Hint: some gimps know they're gimp and while they'd like to have everything, they can't. QQ, excuses, etc. but it's true.

the one thing i dont understand about ppl who play this game and want to get everything and do everything and have all their jobs max lvl what the *** are you going to do when your done doing that??? what are those ppl going to do when this game is done thats one thing i always wondered ive quit and come back so many times but what about the ppl who hace spent rl years "playtime" playing so i guess what im saying is its good to be gimp so atleast you will always have something to do besides sit in wg or pj afk to show off your relic/+2 gear ^^

Plenty of relic/mythic ppl have lifes you know =(
I hate those stereotype so much, it doesn't necessairly mean that if some ppl are better geared/have a better knowledge of the game than you, that they obviously have no life and play 24/7.Some ppl just know how to manage their ingame time/gils more efficiently.I agree that some ppl play 24/7 but you would be surprise of how low in numbers they are.We are all humans and pretty much all need a job <.< (or money D:).

theirs alot of people who "manage" their gil by using other ppl to do it for them ive been in quite a few dyna shells where certain ppl take advantage of a ls to get thier relic done seen that alot and idk about your server but mine always had "elite" players on 24/7 and i know some of them and i know some ppl who are pretty pimp that dont play 24/7

It's a MMORPG, what did you expect? Sun, rainbows and lollipop?We are all humans, good or bad....

Edit: I'm kinda scared for the ppl on your server, I hope you really don't stalk them 24/7!On a serious note, many ppl leave their character online 24/7 doesnt mean they play 24/7.....I did it so many time for bazaar or just not going trough the painfull proccess of logging on PoL via xbox >.< (Xbox had trouble reading FFXI CD...even if it was brand new)

Don't take me wrong, I'm not attacking you or anyone, but I did got that "omfg you are pimp you must have no life!" tells at some point, when I actually work full time xD

you can have pimp gear and not play 24/7 i dont play that much and i know i got some pimp gear and no i dont stalk i just play at different times of the day and see the same people "no name" anyways have you tried to get a new xbox and when you get off do you just push the power button or turn your console off by holding down the middle button cause i play on xbox and if i dont log off and exit playonline and back to xbox home then it wont read my disc even with new disc and i have to retry like 8 times to let me back on

All you need to do to fix that is save a song on your HDD and then load it before running the disc. You will get the message you regularly get when you DC from PoL, but it will run on the 1st try.
Just make sure you saved whatever macro you might've made on your previous log in so you don't lose it. Problem solved.

I don't play on xbox anymore, switched xbox > pc after buying 3 new xbox <.< (2 years ago) But when I was, the actual disk reader had problems and I couldn't get it repaired.So ended buying 2 xbox that both broke/red ring of death after a short time.

I am deffinitly doomed with xbox and ffxi.....I swear.

I hit the power button every single time, and its because I found out a neat little trick to make it work upon restarting.

For some reason, if you click the center button, go to music, and click to play the very first preloaded song(for me its Cold - Happens all the time), you will bypass whatever error you would otherwise get, and go directly to POL. After you're "in", you can hit the center button again, and make the song stop. I do this every time I play ffxi. True story

edit: I didn't figure this out, saw it in a forum somewhere. was so surprised it worked :D

I also never understood the community's burning need to label each other gimps.
It seems in many players' minds, one is either mega-elite, or gimp. No idea why a lot of people can't, or won't, accept that players can (and should) be "graded" on a much more fluid scale, where the overwhelming majority of players fall within 1 standard deviation (above or below) of plain ol' run-of-the-mill average.

Seems a lot of players prefer an unrealistic rating system where people are either an "A+" or they fail. I dunno what the psychology is behind that concept .. but I suspect it's because a lot of gamer-type personalities are insecure and/or anti-social ... and some others are just plain .. dumb.

Yeah same, I give a medal to those who type their spell/play with the keyboard.....I just can't.....Numerous ppl would die....twice as they already die! (lolpc lag and old controller that keep switching to second player ON PC WITH ONLY 1 CONTROLLER PLUGED)(I reallyreally need a new pc/controller!I take offers :( )

well since i bought a xbox made in 2011 i havent had a problem but my older xbox i do so next time i will try that song thing thanks

Competitive would be another word for it.

I'd think of someone wearing a mismatch of Perle and other random gear, one that negates the set effect without granting anything better, as a gimp, but since many people may simply ignore the simplest notions about how the game works because they are new to it and got from lvl 1 to 95 in a bunch of days without really experiencing the game, I'll also try help them out.

If, however, they get all cocky about a suggestion, then yeah, they're gimp noobs and I'll make sure not to waste any more of my time with them.

I believe each job has a very specific bare-minimum, and if your gear is worse than that, you're gimp. These aren't things that are super hard to obtain, a lot of them are just magian trials, +1 AF3 gear, easy to get rare/ex, and cheap AH stuff that makes sense when worn together.

For instance, if your WHM doesn't have a very basic idle set and 45~50% Cure Potency set in this day and age you're gimp.



This set is very easy to get and it's 50%. If you get an augmented body, you don't even need all the AF3 accessories until you try for an AF3 curebody set. Also there's Medicine ring if you for some reason can't get the basics. If you don't have plans to start a Surya's Staff and you play a healer job on a regular basis... I don't even. :x

Other jobs all have Magian weapons they should have/rare/ex weapons, otherwise they're basically taking up space in an alliance. Everyone should have +1 AF3 gear after playing the job for a few weeks, and you should by NO means be sporting fulltime Teal/Perle/Aurore.

I could go on and on, but I think you guys are getting my point. If you're not putting effort into playing your best, why even bother? It doesn't matter if you can't get the shiniest of shiny things, you just need to be smart about your gear, and get the things you can get.
