After I finished with nebs at ~27, I went to Nashmau until lv86, then moved to armored pisces/cave cherax(if you have ebisu). I tried following guides that recommended shall shells until level 55, but I rarely got skillups there and I shot up so fast in Nashmau! Plus you can voidwatch tele there, or just make a nash earring, plus there's NPC close to throw all your fish at! GL ^^;
D: gah new paged!

First, if you don't have it, get a Lu Shang's fishing rod. You will make the gil back in no time.
Then:
Nashmau:
About 200k per day earned
Robber Rig (Crayfish Ball works too)
Istiridye 30 -> 50~
Shrimp Lure
Mercanbaligi and Ahtapot 50 -> 86
Optional:
Qufim Island South:
Earnings depends on your server...check the AH
(after coming out of the cave from port Jeuno hug the left wall til you hit cliffs)
Sinking minnow (Bite rate is kinda *** on these at times)
Black sole 86 -> 96
Quicksand Caves:
(Fountain of Kings)
Again a little under 200k a day.
Meatballs
Cave Cherax 96 -> 110
Black Sole are optional but if you go straight to Cave Cherax you may have a larger number of line snaps and rod breaks. You don't have to do Cherax, any legendary fish will do, however they are sometimes the fish ranking fish and can be traded to Zaldon for Dwarf Pugils and 800 gil per fish. Dwarf Pugils are used for Matsya, Shaper's Shawl says 'sup', or you could use the bait and catch Ebisu fish with it.

I had that happen as well. I had to buy mine from a friend instead of fishing them up. After you get your ebisu, fish liks and sell to recoup loss.
Good luck!

i find line break % increases with fatigue from # of catches. obviously fishing level is strongly connected too, but going after liks after you already caught 100 armored pisces that RL day wont help.

Have been working on Fishing for a couple of months now... Matsaya cape made it more lucrative, but the free gil stream was already lucrative enough for me. Opened my first set of Liks and Gugus for Ebisu today.
1/2 Saber Shoot
1/21 Opal Silk
19,000/95,000 GP

I kinda hate you now =p 0/56 Liks and 0/29 Gugs so far, and with my luck, not gonna hope for better! I do have Serpent Rumor KI though.
I gotta find more time to get more gil to continue on this quest soon!

Surely this has been discussed but the forum search function is not working for me.
I'm curious about the total amount of fishing skill gained by having Mega Moglification: Fishing. I have read in some places that the Moghancement, Moglification, and Mega Moglification fishing skill up stats do not stack with eachother, but just carries over to the next one. On the wiki it has been edited to show each one stacking with the next and the Mega Moglification contributing 3 skill just itself. For a total of +5 skill. This does not seem right to me. I would think each level gives you +1. If they do stack I would agree that you earn a total skill up bonus of +3 by having all three key items. Is there any evidence that these add up or that Mega Mog gives you +3? If they only carry over then the total would be what? 4? If they add up would it be 5? Or is the +3 from the Mega Mog being confused with the total amount gained by having all three key items?
Any clear clarification would be awesome!

as i understand it, if u have stall, it overrides all other fishing furnishings and gives +3 fishing skill and faster bites. apparently, you dont need any other fishing furnishings to get that +5 skill. I'm assuming this massive change was made in order to facilitate more convenient switching between moghancement types. i have no evidence to support this but i suspect it is correct.

I found this out the hard way, but if you have too much furniture in your moghouse it will override the moglification; fishing that the stall gives you.
I spent an afternoon getting the globe from the summer breeze festival. Drop in it my moghouse and suddenly get Moghancement; Experience. Make sure you don't put a lot of other crap in there with it so your aura isn't drowned out with darkness items and the like.
I'm going to guess the signboard and "The Big One" only add to the aura effect for fishing, but haven't done any research to back this up.

They will tip the balance of your moghouse back to MM fishing with stall and such.

I'm going to guess the signboard and "The Big One" only add to the aura effect for fishing, but haven't done any research to back this up. You don't need to add to your fishing aura, just your water aura. If you add all the elemental aura's in your furniture, as long as water comes out on top, you will get your stall's benefit. As long as none of the other water aura furniture has an aura in some other moghancement greater than 11.
So you could have say, your stall, gives you 11 water and your megamoglification, then add 10 random furniture bits with a water aura strength of 10 which have some other random moghancement. Then you will have 111 water with your fishing megamoglification, because it is the dominant one. So then you can add up to 110 dark/earth/fire/whatever furniture without changing anything. Sorry if this makes no sense its very late.

unless things have changed or im imagining things:
rusty buckets and lots of other furnishings with water aura count towards a different type of moghancement: fishing with same name that makes u catch more items. Using these items to boost water aura past a stronger element than your GP furnishings will not give you the proper moghancement, unless you are really into polishing rusty items (which was so broken in 2004).

That's true if you don't have the proper setups (stall) for MM in the first place. if you have MM, but override it with something, you can add water furniture to regain MM.

Istiridye is the Shall Shell equivalent for nashmau, so you can take your pick until 55. Then you should switch to shrimp lure and fish mercs/ahtapots till 86. Black sole until 96 in PJ or qufim. At that point you should be questing for ebisu and can fish whatever you want

Some players probably don't even know how to get to Talacca Cove. Port Jeuno is a convenience for obvious reasons which takes a matter of seconds to run to the dock, but it is nice to know there are alternative areas.

In the years I played ffxi I did some fishing every now and then but always got bored on long fishing runs. I however did quite enjoy fishing when I have a busy day studying and take occasionaly breaks to clear my mind for 30-60min.
Ive read some fishing guides and the conclusion across all of them is "get a lu shangs rod". I started the quest long ago but I will never get it done (<1.000/10.000 so far) because I do by far not fish often enough and not "hard enough".
lu shang being at 7m on bahamut is much easier farmed (7 dynamis sessions should still do the trick, even with declining currency values) than quested. However, for the occasional, casual fisher, 7m for a fishing rod is quite a lot.
Can you guys give me some advice, is it worth at all getting (buying) the lu shangs rod if I dont fish dedicated and regularly for hours? if I have the lu shangs rod, how much time would it take me to fish the 7m back?
and finally, I am currently lvl 21, what is the best spot/rod/bait for me to skillup? considering that I dont spend lenghty periods fishing but rather casually go there every now and then for shorter periods, Id prefer an area that isnt too far off (like the depths of SSG), 30min to get there to fish another 30min and warping again isnt fun really :S
edit:
I did read the post on this page that says how to make money but 200k a day (which involves several hours of fishing I assume) isnt that much money compared to the 7m needed for lu shangs or to the 1m you'd do in less time dyanmis farming

Not at a 100 yet (91 + 4) but I tried 4 hours of fishing Liks yesterday, I got 19 bites, 4 rod breaks, 11 line breaks and 4 catches. Most other casts were nothing bit the line, or ! fishes (Liks are !!! so I cancelled everything else) For the record, I'm not well equipped yet, only the 4 base fishing gear, getting GP for the stall now that I have the Serpent Rumor KI, and working on apron and waders after that.
1/45 gugs and 0/108 Liks... back to making gil to buy them Liks!

got my ebisu rod when fishing hit 78 and I'm wondering should I save gp to get my fishing apron next or pick up the emblem for the stall first I'm down to 9k gp since I picked up the rumors for the ebisu atm. currently 83 skill with neither the apron or the waders as the very first fish I gutted was a gugru that was given to me by a friend when I hit 30 and it had the sabre shoot so my gp priorities were slightly skewed
There are fishing topics that come up now and then but mainly are asking a question for a single answer. I know there are many fishers that visit these forums so this is an attempt to get people involved and have a little fun discussing one and only one thing, fishing!
I know Blue Gartr has a Fishing topic already, but I would like to see this community get involved a little bit and talk, since not everyone visits BG. I would love to have a topic just for fishers including veteran fishers, casual fishers, and even players just starting out and want to ask a few questions without being embarrassed about starting a whole topic for a simple answer they could not find.
I only ask that you keep any bot talk to a minimum, preferably none. [Moderator edit: No bot talk] I want this to be a place where we can discuss anything from GP items of the day to what lure/bait to use or what area is best. A quick mention of how you're doing on the lu shang/ebisu quest, how you're doing getting your fishing items from Grounds of Valor, that item you're saving your GP up for, or how much you wish you could hurt Zaldon for not finding anything in your fish for the 10,000th time. Your lucky moment streaks and the moments when you have nothing come your way and question why you started fishing in the first place. Anything that comes to mind, think of it as the random thoughts thread for fishing.
I will list a few resources that I find to be useful when it comes to fishing: BG Fishing Topic
Great Blue (Amazing Site <3, is out dated since 2008 but an amazing resource regardless)
Final Fishing (Another great resource with one of the most in-depth guides made. Out of date though.)
Fish Size Chart [ GE][ Wikia]
Chenon Diary (The site seems to be down for good though, it was a site made for Fish Ranking)
I shall add more if people provide good resources.
