Well well... /clap... I don't often post much, I often find myself very forgiving. I never planned to get Deus Ex cause it just didn't seem to appeal to me nor do I care for digital/stream/steam copies of games and much perfer a hard copy.

Now I never did like gamestop, but I found them convenient to just go down the road to get a game. Gotta admit I'm now Amazon full-time (atleast for games).

see this is why i dont buy from gamestop, instead of just sending them back to SE they popped them open and expected to sell them at commercial price. i can understand the no-promote-competition thing, but their execution was rather flawed.

on another note i bought my copy (ps3 version) from target and get a free target gift card tossed in with it (splurged for my birthday yesterday) and i have to say i really enjoy the game, and im not a huge fan of shooters myself. It does have it's quirks, but thats just like any other game out there.

also protip: dont grapple a cop in town, ***happens that will make you regret doing so.

I'm glad I'm not the only one weary when I buy a new game and see them take an empty case, open a drawer and pull out a plastic sleeve with the game inside.
Essentially it is no longer a new copy once the seal has been broken or tampered with; let alone having competition advertisements removed therein.
What shitty business practices.

This is why I buy exclusively online unless I'm buying second hand copies of games.

Game (Our gamestop essentially in the UK) is just as bad.

Yeah, f**k GameStop, I don't even shop there anymore except *specifically* going to buy a used game.

I miss the good old days of FuncoLand. (GameStop before it changed its name, then a few years later became a messy pile of crap.)

Steam sales are pretty rad.
Especially since a good chunk of the games you download for them bypass a lot of the registry and account setup *** that you would normally have to go through even from a retail hard copy version.
It was like pulling teeth to register some EA and rockstar games, and it was all skipped via Steam <3
Thank the Gods I don't have to install random third party, rape my hard drive and connection speed social network software from the publisher just so I can play a single player game.

Tbh I don't really buy games, all the ones I play are free and just have a subscription fee. Or, they're super old games I torrented or have old-school 700mb CD's for. (Like Max Payne, Diablo I+II, Warcraft II)

About $45 here, got Garry's Mod + TF2 bundle (which is BS, TF2 is FREE NOW!!!) and FFXI Ultimate Abyssea Collection.

BTW, anyone heard of GamersGate? I got $30 of credit for that site for Christmas this year, and I STILL haven't used it.. >_> That service covers just about every game that wasn't good enough to make it into Steam.

I normally buy on sales too, but I will buy new PC releases on steam mainly.

In fact Skyrim is one of the first games I haven't done it with in years. For some reason I wanted a hard copy.

I'm weird like that too and prefer solid copies of media like music, movies, games, etc.
I'm a case kinda guy. Though it is ideal to have your media on hard drives for archival and storage purposes, I like having something to show for my purchases, especially something really big and prolific to my liking, such as Skyrim, certain FF titles, Muse albums, etc.
Something about having the case, original content and artist/developer intended booklets and artwork and the media in full lossless form is beautiful to me, as opposed to just looking on the screen and just having it "there".

generally nothing beats the new game smell when you open the case the first time.

Haha yeah. To me it would be the equivalent of buying a new car and not getting that smell.
Sure you have the car, but something will still feel like it's missing :(

The publisher went on to invite gamers who want to purchase a coupon-free version of the game to get it from any of GameStop's North American stores, or download it from the retailer's website.

Gamestop is a POS store, no longer go there anyways because on 2 separate occasions me and my friend pre-orderd FFXI expansions from there, I got mine both time but some how even though we both went in together to pre-pay and to pick up they always sold his copies to some one else, well for ToA, they said they wern't getting in more of then one he needed, ps2 I think, and tried to give him the xbox version. SO they can f#$% suck it, why did we pre-pay if you're going ot just sell it to who comes in? I thought the point of pre-paying was so I didn't have to come in a 12am mid-night and could come in on my free time a week later and it still be there.

Gamestop: "Here let me open that game for you and put the price tag directly on the product so you cant resell it. Whats that? the disc looks scratched? Thats because we put it in this drawer for 5 days while it slid around."

You have to pick it up within 48 hours of them recieving it or they sell it to anyone, just like the other games on their shelves. Pre-order just means they order THAT many copies when a game first comes out. Later (depending on how well a pre-order does) they may order even more.

That time they tried to give him a different system's copied we showed up the day it came out just towards the end of the day (like 8:30pm or so), they had my & his PC copies, but they had sold his PS2 copy and then tried to give him ***about a refund, I took mine but he returned the pc copy and bought it from a both from different store.

The real problem with that was they said they weren't getting more PS2 copies ever, so he was screwed if he wanted it from gamestop and it was laughable to say the least with them trying to pawn of a XBox version to some you had pre-orered a pc & PS2 copy >.>

Edit: so they sold all the ps2 copies and planned on getting no more >.>

I don't see why people people would buy a PC game at Gamestop. I've been told generally in the past from multiple Gamestops that they generally do not carry the PC version of the game unless someone specifically preorders. Last preorder from Gamestop I did was FFXI:CoP and we all know how horrible that went during release week.

I either order from Amazon or Steam. Gamestop is still good with their used game sales and their 7 day return policy for 100% refund on used games.

Things that make me /wrist at game stop

1) Developers give special content to Lamestop that is not available anywhere else for reserving a game (or an unique item different to other stores, in this case, it sucks when its nicer than everyone else's)

2) The "NEW" game you want to buy, its the last one on the store. They give you a busted box/cover that was on display, with a price sticker that leaves glue stains when removed, and added a new sticker to re-seal it :|
It has been proven, that workers take stuff home to watch or play and then bring it back and STILL sell it as new.

3) the "OMG WTF U R NOOB IDIOT" for not reserving a game and wanting to buy it the day of release or during that week.

after all the BS I buy my games in Amazon or Best Buy :/
