If you think spending 6 Months to a year getting gear is enjoyable then you are out of your *** mind. I am happy with how things are now, and would never go back to the huge grind that was Old-XI. It seems very few of you get the purpose of all the stuff you did for gear back then. If you can honestly say that right now having all the gear you want that you earned in a month or so, that the game is fun then frankly you're an idiot. You do not need the best gear in the game to have fun and that seems to be the way you're all looking at it. 'Waaa It takes way too long to get gear that is vastly superior to other stuff' The enjoyment was in the process of you know, playing the game.... not just trying to max as fast as one possibly can. With this mentality I find it hard to believe that you can even enjoy anything as almost everything is subject to this including real life. I'm Sorry I didnt know standing around with your thumb up your *** for 3 hours waiting for HNM to pop was playing a game. 4-5+ if your doing Ixion/Sandworm. Gear was hardly my only focus, I ran my own shells at 75, and looooooooooong after having everything I kept them running to get other people gear. Then why did you bother doing the HNMs? You never needed to, the point of the HNMs being that way was to make them 'rare' HNMs (like every other nm in the game) were like that... don't even try to site that like they're comparable to the actual endgame content. Yes they were there, yes they were endgame but by endgame you knew what NMs where and why they were that way. Why do them? The only reason I did HNM was my friends were doing them, I go where my friends go and like being around people in game. The fights themselves i'll admit were fun as well, Ixion/Sandworm were a blast at 75 (once they popped). The events I wanted to do, you could only do twice a week (Limbus/Einherjar). These were the two events I enjoyed at 75. Why would something people enjoy be restricted? Sky? Sky was not fun, sure I ran my own sky shell for 2 years. But it got very old. Sea? I hated Sea passionately, and still do. Nobody in their right mind can tell me farming inside the palace is fun. I'm not really sure what you want me to say, I did have fun with old XI but it was a very flawed system. The new ffxi is not that bad though in comparison to the other junk games out there. There is no sense of accomplishment anymore but still the best game community on the market.
You can't say that we don't get more done today than we have in the past. I still feel the same grind now that I felt before even if I only do abyssea for an hour or so, but more gets done for the team. I like that part of abyssea, there are just other aspects of abyssea that I hate that I have mentioned in the past.

More as it doesn't take an abyssea NM 8+ hours to spawn. True, but its not like they don't make you do a ton of lotto spawn nms for empyrean weapons. And its still doing the same thing for long periods of time which you do in abyssea anyway unless you're dedictated to low man for everything. Also you're back at the point of taking too much time = bad. While I will agree that with some of the stuff it was damn annoying how long you had to wait for nms, etc. but that is subject to speculation. Imo I think that having to put time and effort into obtaining the good stuff ultimately leads to a better experience. If that comes with a little hardship along the way so what? What good adventure did not have little annoying bits. Abyssea, just sucks the life out of the game. I can't say that they couldnt have made old ffxi a bit easier on people. But I certainly wouldnt say it needed a massive change either, and abyssea was a very massive change that broke the game in a sense. Is the game not big enough for some people, or what? The way to avoid all of that is to play how you want, with people who feel the same as you do. Think BST is cheatmode? Well... don't play it. Tank with a NIN or a PLD instead of a MNK in Abyssea. Invite along a RDM every once and a while. I read somewhere here on the forums about some people who were keeping a couple jobs at 75, so they could finish (thing I can't remember) the way it was intended. I thought that was cool as hell.
Valefor.Rancor said: » I have full +2 on almost 12 jobs. I can assure I have adapted better than most lol. And I play generally only play after I get out of class, so its much more moderate than most. This is the perfect example of what's wrong. FFXI is my primary hobby, and while I would never say that I am a great player, I do have a good understanding of my roles and capabilities. And even though you might have leveled all of your jobs the old way, I don't yet have full +2 for 3 jobs - let alone 12. Could I? Of course. Should I? Yeah, it'll get there. Will I? Yep. But not everyday is about running around chasing gear. Sometimes, it's fun to try to take something on even if you don't have all ideal roles filled. Sometimes, helping people out with some random and silly thing is what my night's all about. Sometimes, linking 100 mobs in Palborough is good for a laugh - so what if it takes me longer to get to the BCNM? (This is the part where you say that you have fun and do crazy things, too. I don't care.) Really, it's pretty simple: The game is big and you can do a whole lot of different things, including play the "old way." That makes me think you're not even trying to have fun - that you automatically have to be "as good as possible as fast as possible." And, because doing that ISN'T fun for you now, you're complaining. Fenrir.Gradd said: » Mishaa said: » Fenrir.Gradd said: » Obviously you've never camped Ix'DRG. I miss having different events. Dynamis/limbus/sea/sky/einherjar/BV2/ZNM/SCNM/VNM was way more fun then abyssea/abyssea/abyssea/abyssea/abyssea/voidwatch/abyssea =( Hope they really introduce more endgame, caus 1 year in abyssea is getting boring. Fenrir.Gradd said: » I want a new Ein type event Of all of the "old" world, I thought Ein was as close as they got to a perfect system for big groups; the problem was that the ampoule items weren't nearly good enough to offset that the loot pool was essentially one set of good drops every two weeks, for 20+ people. Would love to see an updated Einherjar with VWNM type coffers. Man I had mnk, nin and war leveled before aby and the level increase came out. No one wanted those jobs then and now it seems that everyone has those jobs leveled.... /sigh
glad that i got to tank stuff nin/drk. sure was fun. pretty much, everybody has the same gear now. you didnt need the best gear as long as you knew what you were doing and how to use the pieces that you did have.... Assault was fun as long as you had a static for it. Some of first lieutenant were a ***. The only reason I did them was so I could get the perdu weapons for ma war, nin and drk :P and to get 4tags. All assaults done :) Hated salvage with passion and all those cells to lot :( The only thing I miss about old FFXI is that you had to coordinate strategies to get certain things done. Things like back in Sky or Dynamis. I personally loved coordinating with a whole team of people to go kick some ***. And it didn't have to be with annoying people either. I was choosy with my linkshells and I landed in a great Dynamis LS. Got everything I needed in no time at all. And I wasn't the only one.
Sky was a harder issue in that regard since there are fewer items which had higher demand. These can now be gotten easier. It's what is good about the new XI. No longer will you have to work for half a year to get a single piece of gear. What I do miss is the effort you needed in the old days. Nowadays it's like the players have gotten more lazy since people hardly have to put in effort to get the job done. Why think up strategies and macros if you can get anything done in a matter of minutes? Its what I don't like about the new XI. The real, gritty challenges seem to have disappeared. Maybe I am wrong though, I would love it if I was wrong. But it really seems that the challenge of the old XI is long gone. No more structured parties or alliances to go against powerful bosses or anything like that. I don't miss the time-sink of the old XI though! Quote: old players Quote: all quit because they can't stand change ![]() This game hasn't ever not changed. I fail to recognize the product entirely from the one I started some 9 years ago. Granted, Abyssea changes were fairly radical given the course of things, but I see them no more than excessively delayed changes that were bound to happen, and should have happened much, much sooner. Please, deal with it or quit. No one wants to listen to this. Fenrir.Tsuji said: » I haven't been to Voidwatch Seriously, try Voidwatch. It's as close to old-XI as the newer events get, and require some structure, just to cover triggers if nothing else. Abyssea has been rolling for over a year now, if I wasn't dealing with it I wouldnt be here trying to argue with people about it. Also, no... People do not buy/pay to play a game just to have it become something else entirely. I mean, look at SoE with SWG.
