By far the most important factor regarding HQ syn (also HQ/NQ farming) I found is moon phase. The effect is actually pretty ridiculous. During 1 waxing crescent (5-8 of the month), I have got 3x Silver Tricone +2, 3x +1 out of 8 syn, 3x +2 Crab Bow, 3x +1 out of 8 syn, and several other HQ 40+ items. While during full moon I made 8 Tricorne with same HQ mats set and comparable quality, I got 1 +1 that's it. The example is definitely SSS but the result is pretty consistent.

Hey AquaRegia,

While I agree that it's important (Moon Cycles). The problem i faced when doing the first article is upon interviewing all the crafters mentioned (about 13 of them in total), each one of them had a different moon phase that seemed to work best for them in terms of HQ.

Now there are a few explanations for this.

1. Moon cycles are tied to the options the player picks upon forming there character.

2. Players are remembering their best results which tied to the lunar cycle and are subsequently biased towards that "golden result" string.

Either way i wanted to keep the article towards things i could test for myself, and personally i have had great strings of HQ results under all lunar cycles, and also terrible results.

Anyhow grats on those great results and thanks for the input :)

Heya Ifrit,

Yeah there are a lot of those types of weird coding issues i have found in my test batches. I really hope it is just the crazy RNG causing those upturns and dips, but at worst it's SE not bothering to test if mechanics actually work. Another example of this was in guide 1 and the INT goldsmith tests.

Thanks Ciara,

I actually am working on another ff related article atm, but its more a general review revisit/summary of everything that has improved over the past year etc.

I really doubt i am going to do a part3 unless mechanics change drastically. I plan on fully covering materia system when it comes out, but of course that will be post 1.19 etc :D

Really glad you enjoyed them, feel free to ask any questions you want via threads or lodestone blog, etc. i try to check them often

Hehe, there are already so many good guides for cooking/food buffs though. My initial motivation for making the synthesis guides was that none that i had read were as comprehensive enough. I'll certainly consider it.

Ideas on what you would like to see in one Ciara?

hope to see more great ff14 information from you Twinkles!

A lot of my buddies have commented on how much they appreciate your post on DoL. Keep it up.

The only food guides I've seen which are from players who quit playing I believe are:

@ Allelujah

Yeah i use a similar version of that when i want to look at what stats are needed for divine buff. Thing that leads me not to do a guide is aside from that chart there's really not much more to culinarian that isn't already in my synthesis guides. Perhaps i'll add in a section with those charts.

This one on Zam is pretty damn comprehensive http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?forum=182&mid=130669687158455763&h=50

Just a little update:

Currently working on Re-review and compendium for changes in 1.18 and 1.19 (when it comes out). Hoping 1.19 comes out right around the 1 year mark cause i've been planning to do a review of the game as fresh start at the 1 year mark, and 1.19 seems like it will be massive.

Not sure if i'll do materia as a stand alone guide or not, mostly will depend on how complex a system it ends up being
