I guess this is what happens when people get the notion that failing to go to college, or putting it off, is some kind of huge failure and that the absolute only way to succeed involves a degree.
But I guess the best lessons are often those learned the hard way. Something to think about while counting ceiling tiles.

Desperate times require desperate measures. Certainly paying for the studies it's not the case.
But I wouldn't scratch porn industry as a last chance, should things go so terribly(if you can-and in women's case they have a chance there 99% of the times since people have the weirdest kinks...). I could be a waitress sure, but the salary wouldn't be enough to live on.
Studying is a privilege, so there's no need to sell yourself for that. But should I be in a situation where I can't pay for food and a bed, yeah, I do have a price. And porn looks a lot safer and rewarding than prositution.

I think if I was that hard-up I'd rather sell my eggs than my body. Not only would they not be flushed down the toilet every month, but they'd help another couple get a child and make them happy, plus places around here pay 3-5 thousand dollars per cycle if the eggs are harvested successfully. :/ As a last resort, I would do that instead of porn or prostitution. A prostitute might make more than $5,000 a month, but I'd be willing to take the lesser price to keep my body mine.

If higher learning was as important as it is made to seem, then it, just like highschool would be givin to all that wanted it. The truth of the matter is, college is a money sync and more about time managemnet then it is actually learning things. A university is a business just like anything else now adays. They dont make you take pointless courses so you can be "well-rounded"? They make you take them so you can spend more on there classes and books. Oh, and as soon as you graduate and get a job, they train you. Go figure. Some of my best friends never went to college. These guys are shoveling in 6 figures a year because they used their smarts, not some piece of paper that put them in debt.
Food for thought: How can a nation truely value knowledge when it makes the least bit of effort to provide it for its citizens? You know that shizz should be free.....
But then again, it always comes back to money. And doing away with that is another topic of its own.

Actually; the situation is sick and sad. Nobody should have to sell themselves for an education. Sadly thats the way it works around here. One of the few industries that always seems to be doing good business is the sex industry.

You're right, we should do away with the public school system altogether.

zahrah said: Ummm...I was hardly "sheltered". How many parents have open discussions about prostitution with their daughters while raising them, Snidely? Will you be instructing your son/s on they ways of cunnilingus or your daughter/s in sucking ***? It seems as though you may be a professional in the *** department.
You said you were shocked by these things so therefore you were sheltered and it's nothing to be ashamed of. Having discussions about prostitution and being "turned out" by your own family are two very different realitites. There is no way for you to know how it feels to be the latter or any need to feel guilty about not being in that position. As far as me being a pro, I was an alter boy and a thousand other things and I have seen a great deal I wouldn't wish on you dear. I hope you never ever see the things I have seen.
zahrah said: Ummm...I graduated college in 2008, thanks!
You say that like you think if was a long time ago. It was a blink of an eye kiddo. No need to get defensive. The older you get, the less these things will shock you, which is kinda sad really... I envy you, I wish I could be suprised.

I'll get a sugar momma/daddy(there are lots of rich gay guys out there) to pay for college. Or I'll just get one because I like buying stuff that I don't necessarily need like clothes. But it's mostly payed for so I can save my body parts. For now.

I have a friend that was a gigalo. He once serviced a 90 year old woman on her birthday. He claims the best place to find "work" is at country music dance bars. Learn to dance and you make a killing, plus free country breakfast in the am.

Ok but on the other hand, when 90% of everyone has a free college education, you're going to have to have a bachelor's to work in a restaurant. Jobs now that require a bachelor's are going to only hire master's. Places that formerly hired people with Master's are going to require Doctorates plus a 3 year unpaid internship.
Giving school away for free doesn't change anything except lower what each degree is worth.
And, regardless, it was clearly a joke. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see that.*
*also a joke.

There are a couple of country bars around here that are known for having cougars. I'd have no idea how to proposition these women though.

Just dress nice and learn to dance and have a good time. They will do all the propositioning you can handle, believe you me and if it gets to weird you can always bail out. Also take a friend with you.

It's a delicate balance, you have to teach people enough to operate sometimes complex machinery but not enough that they understand long term interest rates and tax policy. If they get too smart they learn they are being taken advantage of which isn't good for business.

Yep. I didn't say anything about high achieving students. Pawnskipper had said "How can a nation truely value knowledge..." But it sounds like you're saying "How can a nation truly value knowledge for people that do well enough in school..."
Do C students not deserve knowledge? AND I'd love to see something about average high school grades compared to parents' income levels. Do richer peoples' kids do better in high school, or poorer? That's gonna go over well - the more money you make, the more free college you get!
Long article, but wow! I know there are girls that strip their way through college, but I was pretty shocked when I read this!
College Students Using "Sugar Daddies" To Pay Off Student Loan Debt
Quote: Saddled with piles of student debt and a job-scarce, lackluster economy, current college students and recent graduates are selling themselves to pursue a diploma or pay down their loans. An increasing number, according to the the owners of websites that broker such hook-ups, have taken to the web in search of online suitors or wealthy benefactors who, in exchange for sex, companionship, or both, might help with the bills.
The past few years have taken an especially brutal toll on the plans and expectations of 20-somethings. As unemployment rates tick steadily higher, starting salaries have plummeted. Meanwhile, according to Jeffrey Jensen Arnett, a professor of psychology at Clark University, about 85 percent of the class of 2011 will likely move back in with their parents during some period of their post-college years, compared with 40 percent a decade ago.
Besides moving back home, many 20-somethings are beginning their adult lives shouldering substantial amounts of student loan debt. According to Mark Kantrowitz, who publishes the financial aid websites Fastweb.com and Finaid.org, while the average 2011 graduate finished school with about $27,200 in debt, many are straining to pay off significantly greater loans.
Enter the sugar daddy, sugar baby phenomenon. This particular dynamic preceded the economic meltdown, of course. Rich guys well past their prime have been plunking down money for thousands of years in search of a tryst or something more with women half their age -- and women, willingly or not, have made themselves available. With the whole process going digital, women passing through a system of higher education that fosters indebtedness are using the anonymity of the web to sell their wares and pay down their college loans.
"Over the past few years, the number of college students using our site has exploded," says Brandon Wade, the 41-year-old founder of Seeking Arrangement. Of the site's approximately 800,000 members, Wade estimates that 35 percent are students. "College students are one of the biggest segments of our sugar babies and the numbers are growing all the time.
Quote: Seeking Arrangement is hardly the only website with a business model that revolves around the promotion of sugar daddy and sugar baby relationships. More than half a dozen websites advertise such services.
For instance, SeekingTuition.com offers college students "who need that special education from wealthy benefactors. Find that special someone to help you with books, dorm, rent or tuition today!" Meanwhile, SugarDaddyMeet.com defines a sugar baby as an "attractive and young woman. Beautiful, intelligent, and classy college students, aspiring actresses or models."
Quote: When Barb Brents, a professor of sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, conducts research in various legal brothels in the state, she finds women hailing from a variety of different backgrounds. "The women tend to be from working-class or middle-class backgrounds, but a good number are from upper-class families, too," she says. Brents often finds that women turn to sex work when, in their professional lives, they're unable to make ends meet.
