Is BLM a good job to brew orthrus with?
Uhh, just don't use Fire magic, should be fine. Anything brewing should be able to kill it no problem. He's a cakewalk.
Cataclysm isn't very good against him either

I would imagine brewing him on your NIN w/ Yu would be better.

I know, beaten him before but never have brewed him before. RL friend of mine just came bk to the game and im helping him out with some gear.
What's a good setup for Orthrus? He seemed to hit too fast for a NIN, but I was just eyeballing.
Don't bother brewing unless you're popping 3 at a time, and then holding your brew for another 3.

Almost any melee + WHM should be able to do it. MDT set is a plus. It's a joke with BLU+WHM.
His acc isn't really very good, he misses enough to make switching between Ichi and Ni cake. I still prefer tanking MNK/WAR
THF is a good tank for this. Make sure WHM keeps shellra V and barfire up and you'll be fine. Keep DD atmas on cause his acc isn't anything big so all you have to worry about is the tp moves. This is 1 NM I recommend Auric dagger. Gates of Hades sucks crack, but as long as you are doing good dmg to him, nobody should be taking hate. Personally, after we get procs, I'll use AE to find red and then proc at 15% for full attack.

You don't really even need a WHM for this if the tank has shadows. I did this with THF + SCH, MNK/NIN +SCH. Just barfira + shell5 is the big thing (I'm sure RDM would work too). Stuns really help but the BLM I was with sucked at stunning, so it is not necessary.
WAR/SAM+WHM was fun for 90 Ukon trials... Retaliation makes this guy a joke.

You only need to do them so much anyway.
If it saves you time/sanity, brew Orthrus. That being said, it's a very easy fight. You can zerg it down in like 2 minutes on WAR/SAM+WHM if your WHM doesn't suck. If you're pugging it though, anything can be hard because people are just stupid.

I put this together on what I'm looking to obtain for thf tanking on mobs that tp moves suck like his. If his acc is a little more trouble for you, than ranged slot is a good place to start for eva.
Orthrus has sucky tp moves? Out of all higher tier heroes nms, I found him to be a complete sissy in all departments.

Gates of Hades sucks crack. I hate that move more than I hate most others. maybe it's because of his timing, but that has always been the killer for this nm... most NMs I don't worry about their tp moves, but that one... idk... maybe it's just me.

If you're dying to Gates of Hades from Orthus....Idk, that's just sad. lol Acheron Flame is stronger but still unless he's spam happy with it his TP moves are weak and he's weak.
If you're getting spammed with TP moves, you have too many people wailing on it and not doing enough damage.

GoH does like... 800 damage to me? Archeron Flame does maybe 1-1.4k. Maybe it's just less intimidating for me since I have 4k hp, but still, a thf should be close to 3k and if your whm is paying attention it really isn't bad.
Gates of Hades is his only move that takes out more than me if I die. That's the tough part about it. Maybe I put myself in a situation to overtax the whm, but w/e
Get a better whm? Our Elvaan whm was a *** gun, so we'd basically just *** around and see if we could get ourselves hurt enough to overtax him. Every now and then we'd have to stop having 5 people force feeding an NM tp for a minute or so so he could get some MP back.
What in the world? Stop brewing easy NM unless its 6-8 of the same easy NM at once.
And how the hell do you die to TP moves that do less than 3k+? One cure can patch up the damage of any TP move off of this thing.

lol less than 3k... I have about 2500 hp as thf there. Maybe I should use HP atma?

i brewed orthus, just because i wanted the atheling mantle, and had the pop....., i used drk with gsword, and herculean slash...

Show me a list of things that have killed you from ~full HP.
