Texas: It's the Future

A couple of posters supporting TX made me /facepalm, but I'm just sick of the Bush-loving, gun-toting, cowboy stereotypes. EDIT: I can't stress this enough...This state is NOT a desolate desert! What's wrong with a Bush loving, Gun carrying Cowboy? o.o Not really. The true Cowboys who actually know how to throw a rope and respect a woman are either in nursing homes or wear too small baseball caps with polo shorts and a plad button up. The cowboys you see on TV only know how to ride a horse. Most people you see that wear anything cowboy related (hat/boots) wear them because they're farmers Edit: As for the true gun carries, those are getting fewer and fewer also (I'm talking about people who know gun safety and can shoot a Buck at 250 yards or a Dove at 40 with a 12 Gauge....not some kid in the city with a revolver) You realize that was sarcastic right? It seemed like we walked the whole way from oklahoma city to north dallas after walking most of the way from kentucky to oklahoma city during a larger hitchhiking trip that eventualy encompassed the entirety of the united states and most of canada. We "hitchhiked" the entire time, but when we didn't get rides we walked with our thumbs out. I have no idea why, perhaps so that it appeared we were making some progress towards the general direction we were heading Our problems getting rides started in kentucky, the point of the prison break and the problem getting rides seemed to get increasing worse the closer we got to Dallas Texas due mostly to the fact that the two fugitives that were near us kept commiting crimes and eventually killed an elderly couple. The stint from oklahoma city to dallas was by far the most excrutiating due to the extreme heat and drought (which turned all of north texas into a desert) and the lack of rides and the near death experiance and the halucinations and the dennys and the episode with the old man on the north side of dallas. After the brush with the old man we walked to the greyhound station in downtown dallas and took a bus as far south as we thught was about right, got drunk (which is how we fell asleep most nights) and made the near fatal mistake of passing out on top of a fire ant hill somewhere in another forum post is a story fragment of the same trip about how i think we met Timothy McVey, the oklahoma city bomber who gave us a ride to oklahoma city. He was on his way there from Atlanta Georgia where he worked as a cab driver, but he "lived" in oklahoma city in a tent on the outskirts of town. And my post doesn't really have anything to do with anything, other than I saw the word "texas" and remembered the whole thing in a flashback and shared it for no particular reason. However, I understand your confusion as large portions of the story not dealing with texas were left out of the original broken shard of fragmented memory and filled in later and I apologize. Next Big-Boom Towns Thanks, Vollkom. zahrah said: Just wanted to slap this in here since Austin, San Antonio and Houston are listed in the top five!!! Next Big-Boom Towns Thanks, Vollkom. Quote: No. 5: Houston, Texas Low housing prices, a stable job market and a vibrant immigrant community has helped Houston emerge as future boomtown. And with its burgeoning port and dominance of the world energy business, the area seems destined to become an even bigger target in the coming decade. Fixed. When/if there's ever another terrorist attack on the US, and they want to do more than just make a statement, chances are they'll hit here. Port of Houston is one of the US's major ports, and there are refineries all over the place around here, some of them are absolutely colossal. Sylph.Spency said: You got pretty lips, boy. Quote: No. 1: Austin, Texas This is no surprise. Austin consistently sits atop Forbes' annual list of the best cities for jobs and scores highly in other demographics rankings. It is the third-fastest-growing city in the nation, attracting large numbers of college grads, immigrants and families with young children. Yes, yes. It's totally AWESOME!!! I like this! :) Edited post, recheck it.

ATX and Dallas are easy to get around. Houston though... /shudders The Houston driving experience, the only thing that will give you more excitement (assuming it's not like 6 AM and the roads are backed up for miles) is a roller coaster. Our roads are filled with idiots, seeing a small vehicle cut off a fully loaded 18 wheeler with "Flammable" or "Hazardous" tag on the side is pretty damn common..

I like this! :) I have not been to Austin, but I seriously doubt the roads are laid out worse than Washington, DC. That area is a nitemare to get around in both for the traffic and layout of the road. Also the one time I got pulled over there the cops wanted to send me to the gay district and told me someone would probably handcuff me there if I wanted... they are.. some genius decided to take a 4-lane hi-way, split it to a upper/lower deck (2 up, 2 low) and decided it was a good idea
traffic was awesome when it iced over to say the least, mainly because the lower doesnt provide enough room for APD to do their job love the retards that pull over, making the officer block off 1 of the 2 lanes rather then hitting the nearest exit >.> |
