Teleport (down, up) is your friend.
I just jumped back and forth near him while spamming punches lol
Max distance ------> teleport when he tosses spear/axe -----------> uppercut...

Continue to walk backwards so he throws things at you, duck the spears, and when he throws a hammer, Teleport (down + UP) and uppercut him until dead. If he corners you, do the tackle thing to get him away from you. It's cheap but it'll work ; ;
Still can't beat him, been doing this for hours.
The way I beat it was to get in close and sweep kick him, the second after he got up, u teleport behind him and sweep again. Just keep sweep teleport sweep teleport. NEVER combo, for some reason if u combo him he often does the HQ version of his move which gives him hyper armor, and he'll pound u. Hope this helps. I don't like uppercutting because it puts distance between you, and gives him time to throw crap, shoulder tackle, or other shenanigans

make sure your story mode difficulty lvl is set to easy
No win yet, I'm pretty sure I'm on the hardest difficulty, and I'm not quite sure how to change it. I rage quitted after a few hours.
I used my strat. on hard... It's really to simple..

Yeah the best strat is teleport when he tries to attack you, if your fast enuff he'll miss and be open to attacks.. can do an uppercut or one of the smaller combos if you know them, it took me a few tries to beat him myself as raiden but that strat works.. basicly use the same strat with every character in Ladder matchs to.
There is also the alt, block his attacks and attack right after his attack "animation" is over he'll be open to attacks that wont get stopped by that annoying flash when he tries to attack
