Yeah I guess. It's still annoying. I think the Royal family brings a lot to the UK but most people see them as sponges. And why do you people hate me? D:
Living in Japan now, it's kind of amusing having a royal family, hehe. Have only been to the traditional greet the imperial family after new years once though.

Well, there are some threads where I'm PRETTY sure you actually are trolling which I'm not big fan of in general. It also means I can never be sure whether you're actually being serious or not at the time and well, that's just rather annoying for me, lol.

Like I said before, purposely taunting law enforcement officers is just asking for trouble. What the *** do you gain? A beating, that's what. I agree their methods were a bit overboard, but those teens were asking for it.

without approving or disapproving of their methods

i think the guy was very willing to take a beating in exchange for creating a spectacle, and he got exactly what he was after

i think the cops could have disappointed him deeply by refusing to rise to the bait

Cool story, bro.

On topic:

We had similar issues in the UK before with people doing stuff outside of Buckingham Palace, they got arrested really fast too.

But then a lot of people in the UK don't really care about or enjoy having a royal family anymore.

I do personally, but I think I'm in the minority sadly.

Hmmm...I wouldn't have pegged you as a royalist, but that's cool. Despite the problems in the 90's, I think they are a national symbol. I absolutely love Queen Elizabeth! Phillip, he is HILARIOUS!!!

Not really a Royalist per-say, but I think they play an important role in our economy and lifestyle, even if they are a little... umm... Old fashioned.

But then I feel like Britain is losing a ton of its customs, and I'd be very sad for us to lose one of our major cultural points.

I think your class systems are really bizarre. I guess maybe it's the whole notion of aristocracy that throws me for a loop. There is a great deal of social mobility, right? Or are things kind of stagnant because of the "old" class systems?

By the way, favorite Prince Phillip quote:

"How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to get them through the test?"

(Said to a diving instructor in Scotland.)

Doesn't your Imperial Family partake in philanthropy too? Princess Aiko and Princess Kako are adorable!!! I really loved the pictures of Princess Victoria of Sweden making the rounds in Japan. She seems to go there pretty often.

I find the amount of people who say it's a clear cut issue of simply breaking the law interesting. If laws were changed to interfere with a right you find important, how would you react?

Surprisingly nobody specifically referred to the US being a fascist state for any of the posts I read; but I skipped a bunch in the middle.

EDIT: there is mention of dictatorship on page 2 so it's a good bet somewhere between 2 and 9 it escalated to that point.

I swear there was a nazi quote in there somewhere but I'm not feeling very motivated to look for it.

As for your previous post on how would I react? It would probably depend on the law itself and how important I thought it was. I'd probably start by writing letters/doing petitions/whatever. If I felt it was important enough and other methods didn't seem effective I might do a protest like this. But I STILL wouldn't act like an idiot and try and incite the police into using force.

/sigh And if they just quietly protested, kept their actions to themselves and did their time would anyone really hear about it? That is the point ladies and gents, they have to spread the word for it to have any impact. It's not rocket science, try and keep up please.
I've not once argued that what they're doing is ineffective.
The point is the law is stupid in the first place, and not even valid because its unconstitutional. We are (supposedly) not living in Nazi Germany or some kind of dictatorship. It reminds me of how homosexual activity is still technically illegal in some states (and yes people have been arrested for it) because there was a law written 100 or some years ago and lawmakers somehow forgot to take it off the books.

Whether the law is archaic or pointless you have to accept the ramifications for breaking it.

I mean... sorry for the ignorance but isn't the Jefferson memorial dedicated to Thomas Jefferson? I assume that's why they decided to test the 'freedoms of speech' there.

To imply that the freedom of expression (falls under speech) wouldn't be protected at the memorial of a guy who adamantly supported civil liberties is an insult to him.

He's rolling over in his grave over such a law.

That being said, why would anyone want to dance in the Jefferson memorial anyway? I guess I'm just not a dancer...

I know no one takes civics anymore, I guess it isn't important enough to be required in schools anymore but...

The reason for this law is to protect the stated purpose of a public place (in this case, the memorial, which was built with the intended function of providing a place of quiet contemplation for examining Jeffereson and his ideals/ideas). While it is silly to arrest people for kissing or dancing there, the act of doing these things is distracting to others, just as talking in a library is distracting. To say the law is silly and violates free speech when you could easily move 30ft outside of the memorial to protest it, is just as rediculous as the law itself is. I personally hate and despise the Westboro church for their stupid demonstrations, but at least they do so off the actual grounds of the cemetary, though I think it could be argued that they are certainly loud enough to still impinge upon the rights of the mourners. The people in this video have less respect for the honor/dignity of others than those morons, and while the content is certainly very different, the prevailing attitude of the demonstrators is not, with the ones at the memorial having less respect for the opinions of others than the ones from Westboro. I use Westboro as an example because they are the most recent example of similar protesting that I can think of offhand, not to demonise these protesters by association, so get over it.

TLDR: Your rights end when they impinge upon the rights of others.

I think if everyone did whatever they wanted to do without respect the world would be a sucky place. If they want to dance, there are plenty of other places that would be more appropriate. It's called being civilized. I don't think these people would like it much if random people started dancing around like retards at their protest meetings or at their family picnics at the park.

But I was raised by ppl like this so maybe it’s just me knowing how hypocritical they can be. There is nothing worse than a brainwashing hypocrite that thinks that everything is owed to them. Hope these ppl don’t have kids that they force their crazy *** opinions on. It’s hard to get a good sense of reality when you are brainwashed to think you can do whatever you want and not be held accountable for your actions.

You're missing the point entirely. Dancing in public is not against the law. The law under which they were arrested is unconstitutional and therefore should not exist. These people made this video knowing full well they were going to get arrested. It was completely deliberate, the result of which will hopefully get this law overturned. They made this sacrifice to protect your an my civil liberties to make sure the rest of us are protected from lawmakers and politicians doing this sort of thing in the future. If anything you should be thanking them, not criticizing them.
