Afaik, the love of accents partially stems (apart from it just being novel) from a subconscious desire to find a difference in breeding partners (ie: outside your immediate "tribe").

Generally, cross-breeds are genetically more stable and less prone to defects (just look at dog breeds). Accents are an easy way to tell that someone isn't from nearby, thus your mind goes "zomg breed with them".
