Consider my PLD un-retired.

How is coalition shield as a non-Aegis/Ochain?

It's actually a size 3, so looks good from a blocking standpoint.

It's actually not that bad, for a non-Ochain/Aegis. The DT will let you take less damage when not blocking, and do remember that you have palisade and reprisal that you can alternate. It's a nice shield that you can use until you decide to delve into dyna hell/abyssea hell. Just don't expect to be able to tank as many mobs/more powerful mobs solo. Regen V can probably offset almost all of that damage but you're getting less TP from less blocking.

Neo,

I ask this here only because your xml is the only one I've ever used (I'm brand spanking new to spellcast, as in 20 minutes ago). I have a TH+1 Tarutaru Sash that I like to have equipped for the first hit of the fight but I'm not exactly sure how to implement this into your spellcast. Any ideas? Thank you very much in advance.

I'm not honestly sure how to do that, even with Auto-Exec. However when I had a similar problem I merely put the Sash in a JA/spell set that I was likely to use each fight.

Like put it in your Flash/Voke macro/set or something. You give up that slot for that gearset, but it's an easy way to "tag" the mob with an affirmative action, then swap back to your post-cast set.
Would work well with Provoke, but I don't think I can give up the haste on my flash set. Do you know if the TH will actually work if not dealing any dmg to the mob?

Another question if I may, and again, I only bug you because it's your spellcast and I have no idea how to xml. I'd like to pre-cast cures with my FC set (already taken care of) and then switch to a mid-cast HP+ set, then back to the default TP set after the cast. How would one go about doing this? I figured I have a ton of HP+ on AF3/random pieces, so might as well make it work. Thanks!

Opinions on this set for TP? Hands change based on Zanshin % (Ares +1 are 1 DPS higher in spreadsheet). Maintains capped haste and offers additional TA/QA. Decent amount of attack on this set still and maintains high accuracy. Only real downside is the lack of regen/refresh from Ares +1. -stp doesn't seem to make a difference on rounds to WS (still 11). Very minor difference on melee DPS (+5~7 over posted).

ItemSet 283663

Decent set, but that hasty pinion give me a bad vibe. -5stp may not make or break, but negative stats for 1% haste isn't a good tradeoff imo.

I'm currently working on this for my set

ItemSet 278596

I tend to like to cap haste myself, still tweeking it. I do like the stats on enif, but Ares +1 has regen on it.

Can change out Ochain to Aegis

What's the consensus with Ker's Cuirass vs. Phorcys for CDC? Phorcys a clear winner on this, I assume?

Phorcys WS+ only effects first hit. You'll have to plug them both into the spreadsheet and see which wins based on your other stats/gear, but I'd probably guess Ker's would win.

Posted this in my cdc thread, will tag it here too:

Current Set:
ItemSet 207022

Desired Set:

ItemSet 286085

Ideal Set II (easier obtainable gear then desired set)

ItemSet 295814

Hecatomb Mittens +1 best augments would be Crit Damage +4% and Sword Skill +4 and accuracy +6

Hecatomb subligar +1 best augments would be Crit hit rate +4, accuracy +7, and subtle blow + 4

Alternative feet that would be better then Karieyh sollerets, but not as good as augmented Huggin Gambieras are Valkeries Sabatons augmented with Crit hit rate +3, and Crit hit Damage +5%.

Being that I like to use PLD/RDM, I have a fast cast set for my spells. Here is what I currently use:

ItemSet 296026

I haven't bothered with augmenting my blood cuisses since I'm working on my Enif Cosciales (the most obvious upgrade for this set) so besides that, what else could I improve upon?

Edit: Nuevo is FC +5%/enmity +5, jeweled collar is FC +3%.

What exactly are you using your fast cast set for?

And Arcmarc those sets are pretty much what I got as well.

Mainly for flash and cure recast, but it doesn't hurt on other spells either, like refresh if PLD/RDM solo.

If solo around, say, Adoulin, I use /rdm. With buffs/most party situations I use /war.

Some people swear by /dnc when solo, and it is a good option, just make sure you bring along an Oynos knife for haste. /dnc also has you relying on using both cures and waltz to maintain hate if you end up in a pt so you'll be WS less. /dnc, however, is great for healing waltz for a nice self erase. I suppose you could also dual wield, but the TP from blocking makes up for it, while also of course mitigating dmg. This may work well when fighting trash mobs with very low acc (think lower level stuff) since you won't block much thus slowing down your TP gain.

/sam is nice if you like to solo sc light, which is fun to MB with Divine Emblem + Holy II. /sam is also nice if you (for whatever reason) like to mess around with GS. Again, make sure you bring an Oynos knife for haste, and don't use it when you're with a lot of other melee since since self SC becomes harder at that point.

I've never tried /blu so someone else would have to comment on that.

Another question, how easy is it to build the Relic and Empy Shield?

What about the cost of building them as well? Trying to convince friend to build one if not both of them but he doesn't seem all that thrilled about doing it. Still trying to convince him to start his Empy sword but hates the NM camping aspect of building it.

As for the sword, the 85 is VERY easy to obtain. None of the starting NMs should deter anyone; simply play another video game while you camp them (or craft, if you have the inv and that's your thing). 85 Almace is one of the empys that can truly be soloed, even without good gear.

As far as the shields go... first, Ochain. It's free. You don't need to pay a single gil for it. All that matters is how much stress you're willing to deal with when it comes to the colorless souls. There were a few times when I'd go 1/50 on the T1-T2 chance, then go 1/20 with the T2-T3. Other times I'd go 1/1 on both. It's all up to chance, and when you add competition into the mix, it can get quite frustrating. Stick to it and you'll get through it, but it's all about patience.

Aegis is just like any other relic, really. If you can deal with slaving through dynamis frequently, or have another reliable source of income, you can make an Aegis. Nothing is particularly "hard" about the relic quest, outside of coming up with the funding.

Almace and Ochain: both free.
Aegis: http://www.ffxiah.com/relics/calculator Plug in what the average price is for each currency on your server, and bam.

I've got this set winning by 1.4 points on spreadsheet (this is of course using Huginn feet)

I'm too cheap to buy em so Creed will have to do :P

(Sorry, idk how to add gearset straight to post)

Well that's the funny thing, even with the above TP set, you're still marginally better than the next best (and significantly cheaper) alternatives.

New shield from update looks like it could put a decent fight up against Ochain for Physical damage down. Ochain would most likely still win, but a size 3 with 50 def and -7%DT is pretty incredible.

Going to have to theorycraft a lot of the gear from this update and rework our optimal sets.

And then there is the crafted shield with 61 defense...

http://wiki.bluegartr.com/bg/Killedar_Shield_%2B1

Still puts you slightly below Ochain in terms of total physical damage taken, but not terribly much, depending on your black rate.

Yeah, the new tier haste belt (9-10%) alone is gonna free up a lot of space for change.

I'm also noticing a lot of store tp options starting to open up on pld. While stp isn't normally a big consideration for 1 handers and haste/da should always be prioritized first, hit builds might be considered given that a lot of stp is floating our way and a lot of high end gear for pld already has a good amount of it anyway (rajas/pak/phorcy's head/legs).

Regardless of the stp though, these are still quality options given the amount of haste or da. Our second ring choice for instance has been kind of weak for awhile now so the 5 stp off K'ayres dropping you down a hit could be an interesting choice and is at the very least better than tyrant's.

Just an example, if you were to be using excalibur with no stp gear, you would be sitting on a 17 hit build. You don't need too much stp to drop it down really. 2 stp in gear for a 16, then 7, 8, 8. So a total of 25 stp bring you down to a 13 hit. This gear could make that much easier to do without dropping sources of DA/Haste. Just a thought.

ItemSet 299917

Is this set fine for requiescat on newer content? Mainly just reive monsters for the moment.

Also wondering how paladins are looking at this new delve shield compared to ochain.
