This equation, if written out, would be

Because there isn't a parenthesis before the ÷2 and after the 2)
The answer is 9 in this case
If you were to do the equation as it is in the calculator it'd be
Step 1: (1+2)=3 [6÷2(3)]
Step 2: 6÷2=3 [3(3)]
Step 3: 3x3= 9
Same answer, slightly different way of getting there. And yes, I was bored.

In both this and the linked thread, the "proper" answer is left unclear by the syntax used. In both it is unknown what the desired outcome is. Both answers are correct given different context. Even rewriting it with / instead of ÷ doesn't solve the ambiguity issue, as it still doesn't properly define the entire equation, it can still be (6/2)(1+2) OR 6/(2(1+2))
In my personal opinion, the "better" answer given the context would be following order of operations mechanically, which would cause the equation to be read (6/2)(1+2) = (3)(3) = 9 the "better" answer. I'm not saying 9 is the correct answer, both answers are right, just that in cases of ambiguity I personally believe that Order of Operations should be followed as a hard rule.
Edit to make it seem less like I was implying there was a "right" answer.
