Oh flion I have a question that you can answer now, or maybe in like an hour or so if you want to check some numbers for me. But I was wondering what are the specs on your rig and what temps were you getting on X settings kinda thing. Pretty much how does the game stress your rig.

Well there's no real graphical options in the Alpha, you have the choice of High (which is how it was shown at E3), Medium and Low

I was playing a High and getting a tiny bit of lag at full screen 1680x1050

CPU used to be Overclocked, but recently reverted it.

My PC runs hot anyway, but I was sitting at 47c when playing at high.

The graphics are gorgeous though. The lag is so miniscule that it doesn't hamper, but it's still there, if that makes sense.

Well, my config is almost like yours Q6600, HD5870, 6Go RAM, and I'm sitting at a comfortable 60FPS in High @720P, minus some freeze at the start of the map while still loading. I was really impressed, the game looks really good with a mid-end(?) and kinda old config.

The key binding by default is weird, but I'm getting used to it and finally I'm having some fun. Usually I'm not a PC player for FPS (PS3 powa, 150hr-ish on BF:BC2), but I can tell the game is going to be awesome, even for the CoD core players, they took alot from the two worlds and mixed them with awesomeness.

Still waiting for the console Alpha/Beta to judge, but it's definitely going to be a Day-One buy for me !

I don't disagree with that, it's just a nuisance, nothing more.. Much like DRM.. It doesn't keep the 'right' (wrong?) people out, it just holds up the legitimate users.

In the old days when the game was released (BF 1942-2-2142)stupid thing kicked me out for no reason

:/ I really hope they drop all support for this peace of thrash

Btw

Out of all the Battlefields I still think 2142 was my favorite!

I hope they make a DLC for it in BF3 like how they made one for Vietnam

would be amazing D:

Latency issues are probably the biggest/only reason for not having cross-platform servers right? I don't FPS much since Quake III and offline Halo 1 & 2.

After FFXI was (one of the?) first cross-platform games I thought (I was young back then and didn't fully grasp what lag can do to a competitive industry, not knowing how large said industry is) that it would become the norm.

Hopefully one day it can be without a problem and any game that doesn't include it is basically like a game that doesn't include online capability in some form today.

People with mouse/keyboard would have a huge advantage over those using a controller.. Sorry to all you console FPSers, but a controller will just never be as quick or accurate as a mouse is.. Granted I'd like them merged, getting hardcore into a FPS game is hell on your hands when you're using half the keyboard with one hand.. I have to take breaks every so often because my fingers are all cramped up.. In that sense, a controller is supreme.

Yea like I mentioned before, I've never had a problem with this. My buddy had a problem, and after downloading that punkbuster update, selecting BF2 from the list and updating it, it was able to run a lot better. I also recommend you turn off your Firewall like someone mentioned. What PB error code do you get when you get booted out? Just google that and you may find others with similar problems and how to resolve it. Or you can have a crappy internet connection? I'm not sure :(

Only console game I've played recently with an aim assist was black ops. But that's basically a FPS with training wheels.

Forgot about the keyboard+mouse/controller battle. My oldest brother wouldn't play Halo because of that; b/c I was never a competitive FPSer, I didn't mind. When I say I played Quake III a lot I was very young and just screwing around on local servers through GameSpy. Those were days akin to early MMO days (not so early for me - FFXI).

I think implementing the option couldn't be so difficult considering they already port out every FPS to every platform. Even with lag issues people could see how bad it was and companies could work on improving the flaws from there. Seriously, why not? If I played a lot of games the casuals do (y'know, CoD/GTAIV 360ers), I'd have them all on PS3 anyway and pretty much all my friends would be inaccessible. Would be good to just have the option to.

K tank vs infantry combat is cool. reminds me of warhammer 40k.

If you're going up against a tank and you got a rocketlauncher or w/e
You can immobilized it or destroy it. With regular rpg. took 2 shots in the rear to immobilized and another rpg to blow it up.

Lots of weapon customization from scopes to heavier barrels etc etc.

The movement over obstacles is much like CoD MW2 but its more fluid and faster imo. Also its not like Badcompany 2 or Battlefield 2 or Call of Duty where it takes a stupid amount of bullets to kill someone. Now it can be done with a good headshot or a few good rounds into the chest area.

IMO this is great :D

My thoughts..

Alpha was surprisingly non-buggy, there were plenty of bugs, but it was mostly small stuff. The bugs mostly consisted of graphical problems, far off areas would flash between shade and full on sunlight, so it would appear as if there was someone over there firing a weapon when there wasn't anyone there to begin with. Squads were also bugged, they seemed broken more often than they worked, so the majority of the time was spent sprinting halfway across the map just to get back to the battle. With this happening was hard as attackers to push the defenders back.

Nothing seemed over powered, the classes are well balanced, if you are actually playing with tactics in mind. Every class has it's purpose, if you're trying to run around constantly as Support with the MG, then you're going to die more than if you were running around with an assault rifle. MGs are most effective when you pick a spot with good cover, and deploy the bipod, like you would do in real life. While sniping there is bullet drop, but it felt a little too heavy.. If you're sniping from far away you'd practically have aim so high above the person you're aiming for that they were no longer visible in the scope. There's also more to give away your position than just shooting, which is pretty cool.. You can see the glint of the sniper scope, and if someone has a laser pointer and they aim at you, it's like they're shining the laser in your eye in real life, which gives away their position pretty quick.

The suppression system adds a good level of reality to the game.. In BF2 I used suppression all the time, but it wasn't a game mechanic, I'm loving the fact that it's part of the mechanics in BF3. The available weapons were pretty basic, if you've played BF2, you've seen most of them already.. M104, M249, M16 variants, AK-47 variants, G36C, G3, etc. You start off only with the basic weapon, you earn attachments by using the weapon.. There are 3 different leveling systems, 1 is your main rank, which gives you solider enhancements like faster sprint or more ammo, then there's class rank, which unlocks new weapons, and then there's the weapon rank which unlocks attachments for that weapon. If you unlock the ACOG for the M16, then earn the G3, you'll still have to use G3 to unlock it for that weapon, even though other weapons in that same category already have one.. It also goes per-side too.. If you unlock all the attachments on the American side, you'll still have to unlock the ones for the foreign side.

Battle itself is more dynamic, it's a good level of immersion.. You have to think like a soldier, being rambo and running and gunning will mostly be counter-productive.. Need to move under cover, and move slow.. Use real life tactics, and work with your squad as in real life.. A system of covering each other as one moves up at a time leap frog style works best to get down long corridors where an enemy could pop out at any time. Grenades have been nerf'ed compared to BF2.. They no longer go ridiculous distances, their use now is basically to clear rooms. You can't prime them though, which disappointed me.. If you and an enemy are each just on the other side of a doorway waiting for each other and you toss in a grenade, he has plenty of time to run out and shoot you. The slowness of the knife is also kind of disappointing. There's little incentive to use it, it used to be easier and faster to kill someone you came face to face with, but that's no longer the case.

Ribbons and awards are still in BF3 (Assault rifle ribbon, Squad spawn ribbon, Marksmanship ribbon, etc etc).

Overall, even though it was only Alpha, it just needs some minor polishing and it's pretty much ready to go. They've done a good job with the game, no need for a desperate scramble to fix major problems since release is almost upon us.
