I been searching around these forums and I cannot find anything with "Best" BLU merits, I'm wondering what everybody else is using. I'm new to the job yes, but I play all my jobs to the best of my ability. I admit that I'm not the most knowledgeable or most familiar with this job. Any input is much appreciated, Thanks in advance.

i'm personally doing:
group 1
5/5 physical potency
5/5 magical accuracy
group 2
5/5 assimilation
1/5 diffusion (possibly 5/5)
2/5 enchainment
2/5 convergence
edit: my class levels are all off due to not being in a linkshell anymore

Always was situational.
If you find yourself uncapped acc on a lot of fights you do (some mobs are very evasive or do certain ws to gain more evasion, flame skimmer, roc mobs etc) then I would merit phy potency. This also applies if you are meleeing with a club for red/blue proc and need to use spells like head butt to stun something.
If you find yourself using magic more often, the add effect on head butt or 1k needles or sleep/flash, and fight more resistant mobs I'd go with macc. Some have higher resists to certain elements, I've had flash resisted few times on certain mobs or sleepga.
This is for catergory 1

I did 5/5 Physical, 5/5 Magic, 5/5 Assimilation, 4/5 Convergence, 1/5 Diffusion. Honestly, I didn't do much research on merits before picking. I didn't see BLU merits having that big of an impact (besides Assimilation).

Great, I really appreciate the quick responses. I think now I can make my decisions.

Assimilation is a given, but 2/3 spells you'd pair with CA at this time (QC, BT, third being Goblin Rush) are Damage varies with TP and they're the ones you'll generally default to pairing with CA. Putting at least a few merits in Enchainment is advisable. Convergence on the other hand is only beneficial when nuking/debuffing and only if you're focusing on a single target. I unlocked it for convenience when fighting in an area where an AoE debuff might unintentionally hit another mob, but I wouldn't merit it past that.

Yeah, I hardly ever use Convergence except with 1k Needles on stuff that it tends to resist on, because my BLU was pretty much a glorified proc *** before I got some decent gear for it. I will swap some points into Enchainment.

5/5 Chain Affinity Recast
5/5 Physical Potency
5/5 Assimilation
5/5 Enchainment
That's what I have. I don't find diffusion or convergence worth meriting because of the recast time. Being able to use Chain Affinity twice for every Efflux is kinda sexy.

I'm more of a physical BLU. Since I'm Elvaan, I don't have too much MP (outside of abyssea) and INT, for that matter. Although my MND is rather high, it's easier for me to get STR/DEX/VIT mods for spells. so I went with...
5/5 Physical
5/5 Chain Aff.
5/5 Assimilation
4/5 Enchainment
1/5 Diffusion
Honestly, like Draylo said, it depends on if you mostly use physical or magical.

This. This is exactly what I did. Before abyssea I had diffusion merited, but really it's so situational there's really no point. The extra 5 points help alot in proccing as well

I like this response. 1/5 Convergence 3/5 Enchainment 1/5 Diffusion 5/5 Assimilation. that's pretty much what i get out of what you said night

Sorry if this is herpderp but can someone explain some good situations for diffusion/convergence? I used diffusion with refueling (didn't get wail yet, i've only been 90 for less than a week) when my roomate and i were fooling around as a duo mnk/blu to give him haste. I'm just curious as to when/how you use them both to the most efficiency.

That is almost the only reason to use diffusion, but not even necessary if your rdm/whm is on top of things. Most mages can refresh themselves now, and diffusion+exuviation is not required anymore due to the fact that we have winds of promyvion with built-in-aoe. Pretty much the only time I've used diffusion in the last 2 months was to hastega everyone right before a wotg mission fight.
Regarding tier1, I have 5/5 magic accuracy merited currently, but I think I'm going to give those merits up in favor of CA recast. I've got an oa2-4 khanda, and my tp to 100 always beats my CA timer by a fair margin. Additionally, I'm a career BLM and have had elemental 8/8 and enfeebling 8/8 for a long time, leaving no room for blue magic merits. With the magic merit cap increase going to 24 next week, I'll finally be able to 8/8 blue magic as well. So, with regard to blu's magical spells, I'll lose the +10 accuracy from tier1 merits, but pick up +16 accuracy from the blue magic merits.
To sum it up, I originally built my BLU with these merits:
5/5 Magic Accuracy
5/5 Physical Potency
5/5 Assimilation
4/5 Enchainment
1/5 Diffusion
But I'll be changing it to this:
5/5 Chain Affinity Recast
5/5 Physical Potency
5/5 Assimilation
5/5 Enchainment

Convergence is most useful for avoiding AoE moves that would aggro otherwise docile mobs nearby. For example if you were fighting a NM among other passive mobs kiting in circles etc, you are trying to use Frightful Roar for the potent defense down so to avoid it hitting everything around you pop convergence then cast the spell.
Its acc/m.a.b. trait is nearly worthless for the 10 minute recast. Most blu's are not geared properly to "nuke" and any more than 1 merit into convergence is a waste. Very rarely I will use it for an extra +10 m.acc if a spell won't land (like 1000 needles). But I have over 410 blu magic skill so resists are very rare and the mobs that resist things like 1k needles are too resistant for convergence to make a difference.
I will probably change my BLU merits around after the update as well.
Currently my merits are:
5/5 physical potency
5/5 magic accuracy
2/5 convergence
3/5 diffusion
5/5 assimilation
Likely will change it to:
5/5 chain affinity
5/5 physical potency
1/5 convergence
1/5 diffusion
3/5 enchainment
5/5 assimilation
Diffusion is useful for more than just haste, I have used it effectively with saline coat to shave considerable damage off deadly moves.

That's true, I always forget about saline coat.

Not sure I agree with any Convergence merits unless you're maxing it for your nuking set. The recast is quite long if you're just using it to avoid AoEing.
I really like my Enchainment merits with Efflux (Mavi Tayt +2 included), and Mavi Kavuk +

Thanks guys. Sorry to be so newby but I'd rather ask 100 dumb questions and do it half-right than ask none and do it all-wrong.

Like others I'd suggest 1/5 in Convergence in order to keep from AOE a whole group of mobs. Like when pulling an NM near a group of mobs and needing Actinic Burst to make it back to camp safely. Used it on several occasions for that specific reason. Since I had it unlocked would use for regular nuking situations as well for a boost in 5 MAB/5 Macc.
