Anyone else excited about this? It will make it nice when targeting a specific fish. I like the part about dividing up !!! fish and !!! monsters.

[dev1008] Fishing Improvements on the Way
The forthcoming version update will see two refinements aimed at anglers of Vana'diel: more informative fishing messages and the introduction of a "critical bite" system.
New fishing messages
Messages displayed upon getting a bite will indicate the size and type of your potential catch as follows:
Small fish: "Something caught the hook!"
Large fish: "Something caught the hook!!!"
Non-fish targets: "You feel something pulling at your line."
Monsters: "Something clamps onto your line ferociously!"
Critical bites
Players with fishing skill surpassing the rank of their target will register a critical bite, and be rewarded with advance knowledge as to the identity of their prey.
Ex.: (When scoring a critical bite against a black sole)
"Something caught the hook!
Your keen angler's senses tell you that this is the pull of a black sole!"
Scoring a critical bite will also slow the target's stamina recovery in the event of improper reeling, allowing players to reel in lower-level fish with greater ease.
We will also be implementing the next stage of efficiency tweaks and refinements to the fishing system code itself, a process which began last patch with the goal of allowing for a greater range of adjustments in the future. We will continue to monitor game balance and adjust the system as necessary.
Furthermore, we intend to preserve the timing-dependent minigame nature of the fishing system, and make balance tweaks and adjustments accordingly. We are also aware of the significant outstanding issues with RMT abuse and difficulty imbalances related to players’ system environments, and will continue working towards a viable solution. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Really, they need to make fishing faster imo. It takes too long to get to fatigue (200fish) and then they only AH/npc for around 200k; not worth the time it takes to fish (can make gil by other means faster). Unless you bot of course.

I love how they completely misuse "RMT" in this post... Sure, there are RMTs that fish but not all fishbotters are RMT. God forbid we say the b word though.
I really don't get why SE is so determined to deal with fishbotters here. Yes it's a section of the game that's dominated by bots, but that's because they've made the gil/hr so terrible that it's not worth doing otherwise. I really don't see how they'd be able to eliminate fishbots to begin with, and even if they do I have to wonder if SE has considered the impact that would have and prepared countermeasures to make fishing worthwhile afterwards.

It's not a valid reason to GM people who only fish up one fish type now since we can "legitimately" know what we are catching and selectively release? Thanks SE ^^

all this new update is doing is making it EASIER for them to bot since now since you can target certain fishes and release unwanted ones they can't really tell if your targetting certain fish by bots, or by their system.
At least that's my thoughts.

Seasoned fishers can tell the difference between most fish anyways, due to HP level or rod swing status. As of current, SE could only ever catch people who have been reported, afk-botting, or caught kill-fish botting.
