Me again with a random question. I wanna focus on the fat around my abs and love handles. Its the only extra fat I really have to lose. I've been doing upper body muscle strength 2-3 a week and cardio 1-2. Should I focus more on cardio for it or is there something else I can do? My cardio is usually just treadmill or elliptical.
No way to target fat stores but to burn fat overall throughout your body. Amp up the cardio.

I was looking at gps systems for something else and i happened to notice this item.
While that seems a bit excessive i have been wondering about an item that can track distance and heart rate while walking or running. I had looked at some items a long while ago, but everything was mixed reviews or not quite what i was looking for. I eventually got side tracked and forgot about it. But i was wondering if anyone has used items like that and there thoughts on the one they used.

Anyone wanna give me a treadmill vs elliptical break down for cardio? Is one better then the other? Treadmill;
Elliptical allows you to do less work (it has a lot of your momentum and makes it easy to move). Treadmill; you set it to 6mph, you're running 6mph or you fall off.
I really don't even see a reason for elliptical to exist. You want a leg workout (aka the people who set it to high resistance), put that ***down and go do some squats.

Calories burned on either will be based on your heart rate. u can do 1 hr walking on a treadmill at 120 HR and do 30 mins on Eliptical at 160 HR and the elliptical will show more calories burnt.

And there is 1 thing I have heard that can spot reduce BF. But I have never tried and it is on the “ darkside” if you know what I mean so I would not advise it.

Not because I would use it but more because I am intrigued by the idea that one can somehow defy physiology, I would be interested to hear what this spot-reduction technique is.
Unless you're just talking about liposuction?

HGH. Many plp also call it “ liquid abs”. I have never used it myself so this is just hearsay.

I had to do leg press instead of squats today :( so disappointed. Was looking forward to squatting, too

You can squat with almost anything, though. Even bodyweight squats will give you a workout, albeit at higher reps and time, but surely you could have found something heavy?

Treadmills are much higher impact on your joints than an elliptical. Sure you'll burn more calories on a treadmill but if you're more frequently sore using it and therefore aren't motivated to repeat the torture daily then an elliptical will easily out pace the treadmill over time.
Think Epeen DMG vs DOT

I've not tried this and it may be all Broscience, but maybe it works for a select few?

I'm just going to express serious doubts. The science isn't compelling and the testimonials are even worse. Someone who does almost no cardio finds a way to work more in and, hey voilà, the usual result of cardio happens.
Actually, this flies in the face of not only my experience but also established knowledge. I will need to see if I can find a citation, but basically there is a tendency for fat reserves to accumulate close to where serious work is being done. My primary forms of exercise have always been highly leg-centric (ballet, track, and bicycling) and that's where I consistently store fat. I've read lots of stories of boys with gynecomastia (naturally caused, not from anabolic abuse) who go nuts working out their chest and find it only makes the problem worse because now the fat deposit is situated on a slab of muscle.
Of course, the obvious result of fat migrating to where it is going to get burned is that it will get burned, which is probably where these bodybuilders and their focused routines seem to imply something, but it is likely not spot reduction but rather the usual overall reduction hitting the last place to get completely drained. Even if we wanted to call that spot reduction, it's something that only applies in a really limited way.

I used to love t-nation in the past, but nowadays all their articles lead to them trying to market one of their in-house supplements by the end of it. Just like he does here yet again.
His "science" is just as accurate as the myth of wearing sauna suits to burn more fat.

Lyle McDonald writes pretty extensively in his books about the science around fat mobilization and adipose tissue bloodflow is definitely one of the factors. That being said, there are a myriad of other issues that prevent fat mobilization in the stubborn areas than just bloodflow, the most important of which is the ratio of alpha to beta adrenoreceptors.
The gist is... an extremely lean competitive bodybuilder might get some benefit from increasing bloodflow in stubborn fat areas (like a heat belt or something) but even in such an extreme case, the benefit is very small and it's certainly an awful idea to suggest it's relevant for 99.9% of trainees.
My opinion is that author is trying to be contrarian to make a name for himself. Lyle would shred that guy if he bothered to do so.
Edit: I just noticed who wrote it and those guys are already pretty well-respected so my categorization is off. My synopsis still stands though, it's basically irrelevant for normal people

In the process of fixing what years of antibiotics, sugars, preservatives, and many other unnatural food additives have done to my body... This healthy stuff like yogurt, high fiber, and probiotics, is making my stomach upset. I hope this is just temporary discomfort as my body adjust to its new internal environment lol

I hope this is just temporary discomfort as my body adjust to its new internal environment lol What exactly was wrong with your body before? And what is the nature of your stomach upset? constantly sick with respiratory infections, sinus infections, IBS, fatigue, weak immune system. and the frequency in that I get sick have been constant since I had to take antibiotics for this last lung infection 5 months ago, like clockwork I get the same infection returning 1 month after I ran out of antibiotics but now I have been fighting back by strengthening my own immune system and I've had great success. after just 1 weak the congestion in my lungs was gone. prior to all these antibiotics and constant sickness it was 7 years since the last time I got sick and now I get sick easily with colds and flu's and pneumonia/bronchitis etc. even my skin is looking like crap now.
But on this new diet I occasionally get sharp pains in my guts, I'm hoping its just gas.
Edit: forgot to mention I have been on 4 antibiotics in this 5 months on 3 separate occasions, last time they gave me 2 to take at the same time and tried to give me a life long prescription for an inhaler

Have you had an HIV test? And has any other battery of tests been done to check for auto-immune disorders? What you describe is highly abnormal and while it may make you feel better to attribute it to something you've eaten, the likelihood is virtually nil. If not an auto-immune disorder, I'd almost worry about something like lung cancer if you've really had this many issues. Have you been screened for cancer?
As for the changes wrought by your diet, gas is the most likely culprit and that just becomes an acclimatization issue. Virtually any change in diet can lead to a variety of upset as the fauna in your gut cope. How long have you been eating differently? It shouldn't persist more than a couple weeks. If it does, especially since you mentioned having IBS before, you may want to get it checked out. Of course, if you're eating a large amount of probiotics, be aware that you're introducing new strains of bacteria to your intestinal tract, so digestive issues are somewhat to be expected.

I've heard Dave Tate talk about puking and feeling awfully sick for a good while when he switched suddenly from pounding a ton of cheeseburgers (to push his squat to 930lb) to oatmeal and broccoli.
I have a simpler proposition than most of the above posts: consider trying a slower transition from ***food to clean food.

I've heard about the same issues as well from eating meat after going years without it. Your body goes into convulsions just like you would from addiction withdrawal, ***is crazy.

It doesn't even take that long. I went about a month without eating meat (because I was poor, stupid, 19 years old, and consequently sick in bed). When I realized my error, which I'd been oblivious to, my guts were quite annoyed with me. It only took about a week and a half to get back to normal.
I'm fairly certain the very low protein content of that month contributed heavily to my feeling tired and sick all the time. I probably had a virus concurrently, but I learned my lesson.
This thread is basically for discussing workouts and dietary intake for people who are trying to or looking to getting into better shape or eating healthier in general.
Any and all questions regarding either of the two can be asked and hopefully answered here as well.
