Considering the difference between the effects of natural disasters on developing (3rd world) countries like Sri Lanka (tsunami a couple years back) and Japan, a very economically successful country, I think that they are able to handle the problem themselves. Sure there are a lot of peoeple who died but we're so quick to forget all the other natural disasters that have happened recently, such as the earthquake in New Zealand or the flooding of North-eastern Australia. People have a right to worry about when they will be able to play their game again, because Japan should have been well prepared for this in the beginning (also since they claimed that they were..). It's not that we should feel sorry for and reach out to help Japan so much, but to expect them to fix their problem efficiently as we are led to believe they are capable of.

Basically why the world is they way it is now. I know if a earthquake or natural disaster wiped out half the US all our buisness would still be open right?

Folks need to chill and not give SE a hard time for this.

But folks need to also chill a bit and realize not everyone is going to pour their heart out for folks they don't know, either.

Q.Qing over the servers being down during a disaster is pretty sad, but there's no need to similarly Q.Q over the fact that many people think this way.

Let's not pick fights unnecessarily.

Link so I can read please, not sure what site you are talking about sorry :( and not calling you a liar or anything just want to read about it

I think it was just a Hydrogen explosion, I was more referring to the picture of the explosion, where a huge plume of smoke was visible above the reactor building. The containment vessel is still there, so no Chernobyl worries. I bet they're starting to look at getting every single cement truck in Japan to start pouring concrete over the entire area, just in case.

Yes, caus the servers are in Japan, not U.S.A. They didnt shut down caus they wanted to, they shut down caus their government asked ppl to watch their energy use for a while.

I wanted to just clarify something... they are looking at a partial meltdown, and for the record. they dont "explode" the reactor rods stay at a certain temp. and they pump cool water in while pumping hot water out. the problem isnt the earthquake, its the Tsunami which dmg the power to the pumps so the hot water is evaporating and no cool water coming in so they're getting hotter. if they get to hot and melt the containment unit around the reactor the radiation gets out. People thinking it blows up like a A-bomb or something is just nuts.

If there is a spare generator and some diesel laying around, I would rather it be powering a Hospital, a shelter, or some other needed facility, rather than a gaming company. Saying "they can get a generator to get my game back" at a time like this is petty and selfish.

The sad thing about today is unless people get their instant gratification be it via a game or anything else... they *** about it.

This is no exception as i'm seeing I'm seeing alot of people whining and complaining but yet they seem to not realize the severity of what's going on in Japan currently, sorry but right now their main focus should be getting their ***together not pleasing some whiny 12 year old cause he can't sit on an online video game all day.

the complaining kids should join help organisations and help the ppl there instead of complaining the whole day about server down or that they should move the server.
anyone had the idea to spend the money for the free month or 2 to a help organisation yet?
this would be a good use for the money.

Jaerik: Basically what I've been trying to say for the past few days, but better put. IMHO, if things get too bad they might move services offsite and start up the servers, but that would be the last thing on their mind at the moment. SE is staff'd by people, those people have families and friends who quite possible are also affected in some way, not by just rolling power outages. People have to understand the Japanese mentality, they work as a team. If the greater good means that they have to sacrifice trivial services to save power they will, not because they want to, but because they must. If people are so distressed about not having access to a game that is trivial, then they are not classified as Humans in my books.
Well said!

I see everyone as equals, and i'm pretty sure everyone understand the severity of stuff happening in Japan.I just think most ppl dont understand why the servers are shutted down. And mainly see it as an "emo" action from SE because they are JPs.I think ppl just need to understand, that they shut down the servers has a necessairy for some human lifes and it will comes back when the situation of those "nuclear base" are safe and totally fonctional.

God plz forgive my borke engrish ; ;

Why? Those power plants don't effect me at all.

I'm not even whining about not being able to play a game I haven't played in 3 months. I just find this statement a bit silly.

Heavens no, Japan is the only place in the world right now that needs money. It's where anime comes from so it must be the most important.

Because most people have the "can't see it from my house" syndrome.

ITT: People white knighting about what happened in Japan.

Yeah, it was a horrible thing. But, at this point, no one is complaining, only discussing the possibilities of what may have happened. Congratulations all you moralfags who donated blood and money, etc. I just hope they don't sit on their *** like Louisiana did with New Orleans.
