Using a generator to provide power would be the easiest solution, however it's probably just as expensive.

I'd say more expensive. The amount of generators they would need would be fairly large, on top of that, the amount of diesel fuel they'd be burning would be another skyrocketting cost.

If they want to get this game up and running in less than a month, they'll need to move the servers again (did no one else read the update notes from last Monday?) to a different geographic location. I was telling my LS when they announced that the server was going down that it would be at least a month before they came back up. Now with Reactor 2 at Dai-ichi going up in smoke and 1 and 3 still having issues, I'm expecting at least two months before the game is back up.

2 months and SE better invest alot of gil in their advertising department. Subscriber base will be reduced to 2 servers, and mostly Jp.

South Korea is a short distance away. Move the servers there. Slightly higher cost due to renting a facility, but you'd be back to charging customers for a service provided.

To me I'm pretty meh about it, but don't go around insulting others because they don't agree that their world should stop just for a bunch of dead/dying people. Not everyone has a bleeding heart for others suffering.

and thats why America and Japan are completely different, their mentalities are the same..

1. their world shouldnt stop for a bunch of dying people? - their world has stopped FULL stop.. regardless of the dead/dying.. they are losing the one thing they need LAND

2. how many americans posted about "remmeber pearl habour" - its got sod all to do with anything like that and heartless comments like that are why many americans are hated.

Ys im generalising NO its not all of america but when there;s idiotic comments like that who are the loud voices you wonder how people get reputations..

just saying

if you have no staff.. you have no company.. if you have no power you have no company.. if you have no land because its been destroyed.. you have no company..

you help get the basics back first.

1. I was talking about the people "complaining" about the game being down.

2. anyone who said that should die in a fire, kidding or not.

there's plenty of people in the world, power and land, the company is a worldwide company, not just in Japan.

At the moment the only thing they are lacking is power.

Quite frankly idc how long they're down for, I'm just saying don't give people ***because they don't care about the Japanese people.

no, it would only take 1 large generator to power more than enough energy. But I'd prefer the option of them investing that money into helping the crisis, but hey that's me.

edit: also did #2 blow or just explode from the addition of seawater to cool like the other 2?

its not so much that we should stop for japan, but more along the lines that people don't really care about all the others in the world dying from lack of food, water, health supplies etc, so why care so bad about this? I care a lot, but thats the logic I use when I see people who don't really care, and why I don't have a problem with it

Honestly i can't believe everyone is so worried about playing a game when thousands of people are dead homeless hungry cold (yeah it's cold there too)most haven't even had fresh water since the original earthquake forget about the rest. I really doubt getting SE up and running is on a top priority in japan atm i really doubt anyone working in the SE facility is worried about moving servers so some whiny kids that dont know what else to do with there time can be happy. More than likely the employees or scrambling to get the hell out before they end up in a nuclear blast or maybe trying to find family in a not so far off town that was Destroyed by water fire or earthquakes. I miss playing as much as the next guy but wtf really....

The customers that are attracted by the PR do make you money. Whole reason for PR. They don't do PR for kicks!

In all honesty, doesn't really matter if they do. It'll come to show how many people care more about the game then RL.

Plz correct if I'm reading this wrong. Are you saying that every1 that will be playing, when the servers come back up, are obviously ppl that don't care about RL?That is a big statement. What about all the ppl that play after work/school or during their free time like ppl playing Call of duty?If ppl want to play, no matter how many hours/day, It's their choice, no need to judge them.Who you are to judge anyway, you play the same game <.<

the profit margin from good PR is indeed there, but it's not high enough to justify to stop operations in a halt to just get some PR. Unless of course your PR was already super ***and you did something that you need to rectify. This is not the case however.

I dont think of a matter as of right now this is happening my job is feeding the homeless i see it everday life goes on when i leave my job. However the place that controls the game we all love and play is in utter distress right now and people are bitching about how they should do this and do that to get a game running, this is the point i can't see maybe if they had back up servers in CA or elsewhere yeah get that ***running but really do people expect japan to care about good buisness practices as they watch their country fall to pieces and their people die, highly unlikely.

I don't expect Japan to care about what it's businesses do right now, I expect the businesses to care.

I'm throwing ideas out there just as /random Idc if they do them or not, or if the game is down for 6 months (as long as I don't have to pay).

If somebody wants to *** about the game being down, let them. Don't go all moral oral on them.

Considering the difference between the effects of natural disasters on developing (3rd world) countries like Sri Lanka (tsunami a couple years back) and Japan, a very economically successful country, I think that they are able to handle the problem themselves. Sure there are a lot of peoeple who died but we're so quick to forget all the other natural disasters that have happened recently, such as the earthquake in New Zealand or the flooding of North-eastern Australia. People have a right to worry about when they will be able to play their game again, because Japan should have been well prepared for this in the beginning (also since they claimed that they were..). It's not that we should feel sorry for and reach out to help Japan so much, but to expect them to fix their problem efficiently as we are led to believe they are capable of.
