even if SE did want to move their servers what kind of retard would think that they'd request microsoft's help to do so?
Exactly, microsoft has enough problems as it is and they still have problems with their own servers as it is
it's not even about that, it's just why would they?
there's no logical reason for them to do so, they're more than capable of handling it themselves...
From what I understand SE has Support placed in California, not sure if those have servers in them or not

I seriously doubt they have enough servers that are powerful enough to replace those that were in japan

As I said "Imo" never told anyone to not worry about it
and to the So? if the Support site did have servers in them and they did decide to move the servers that is where they would be placed

No not to support the thousands of players on FF and it would cause more problems moving the servers then it would be just waiting it out and letting everything settle

lol they're nearly decade old servers, easily replaceable.
Not to mention the simpler task of picking up the damn servers, moving them to a new location and using their power, or just you know bring in a generator that can output the wattage.
Or if they really want to be cool, they could dump some cash into getting the power plants up and running faster which would stabilize the power, and it's great PR.

Servers are about 5 years old actually, they replaced them around that time.

They already moved the servers folks, idk why this is being argued about. "Moving the servers" doesn't mean out of country. It means they went to another room/building in Japan, for whatever reason.

Would be easy to sink in money to getting everything back up and running. ~4 billion every year for the past what 9 years give or take

moving the servers to a more stable area wouldn't cause any more problems then them moving them not long ago (I don't recall any)
copying data to "new" servers in another location would create numerous times more problems. Assuming they could replace the servers with new tech, it would be cheap to handle the data that is FFXI considering how old the tech is. However considering they'd probably have to build them almost as replicas, well you get the idea.
Using a generator to provide power would be the easiest solution, however it's probably just as expensive.

Most people are understanding of what is going on, we might lose some idiots, but when the servers are back up, I know I will be. It's not the fact that idiots will leave, it's the fact that in the month+ that the servers are down, people will undoubtedly find new games to play and other things to do with their lives. So, when the servers do come back online, they may not be enthusiastic to come back because they've found better things to do with their lives. It sounds terrible, but online-game providers rely on those who become addicted to their games. If these players are forced to quit for a while, then they may "see the light" and be unwilling to go back into the cycle of having the game eat their life again. I totally agree with this. And anyone who's been reading my posts since the beginning knows that I have always felt the servers would remain down for much longer than a week. I myself will indeed find something else to do. I'm taking a flight to vegas saturday evening and will be there for 14 days, possibly longer. If the servers remain down beyond that, so be it. I had a life before and during ffxi; I'll have one after. If the servers happen to come back up and I'm engrossed in something else, as most people will be, and I'm not interested anymore, then Oh well. It had to happen sometime.
I sincerely believe though, that if the servers are down in an excess of 2 weeks, SE can expect to lose, in the very least, 15%-20% of their subscribers.

the whole of Japan has been told conserve power.. so yes it would mean move it out of the country.
I cant believe people are Q.Q about it being down.. we'll get it back if/when we get it back. SE clearly dont WANT it to be down but i think lives and livelihood is far more important to them at present than a few people on a forum

We know they did that but rumors have been going around on the "Official Final Fantasy XI Forums" on the Japan end that SE and Microsoft are negotiating moving servers permanently out of Japan to North America on the west coast, but with every forum there is always stuff being thrown around.

Jaerik: Basically what I've been trying to say for the past few days, but better put.
IMHO, if things get too bad they might move services offsite and start up the servers, but that would be the last thing on their mind at the moment.
SE is staff'd by people, those people have families and friends who quite possible are also affected in some way, not by just rolling power outages.
People have to understand the Japanese mentality, they work as a team. If the greater good means that they have to sacrifice trivial services to save power they will, not because they want to, but because they must.
If people are so distressed about not having access to a game that is trivial, then they are not classified as Humans in my books.

In all honesty, doesn't really matter if they do. It'll come to show how many people care more about the game then RL.
Where as for me, I actually juggle college, work, game, and life pretty well. So the servers being down doesn't really bother me all that much tbh. There's better things to do.
Besides for me and clinpachi...This couldn't have happened at a better time. Moving in a new apartment this weekend, we'll need the time to get things set up anyways.
I still find it funny though how many are mad about this. It's a game people, wake up and see the light. Get out of the basement and go get some nice fresh air, promise you'll like it. Just don't forget the sunglasses, may be a little bright for some. :P

it's not trivial to everyone, so you can shove your false sense of superior morality.
To me I'm pretty meh about it, but don't go around insulting others because they don't agree that their world should stop just for a bunch of dead/dying people. Not everyone has a bleeding heart for others suffering.

and thats why America and Japan are completely different, their mentalities are the same..
1. their world shouldnt stop for a bunch of dying people? - their world has stopped FULL stop.. regardless of the dead/dying.. they are losing the one thing they need LAND
2. how many americans posted about "remmeber pearl habour" - its got sod all to do with anything like that and heartless comments like that are why many americans are hated.
Ys im generalising NO its not all of america but when there;s idiotic comments like that who are the loud voices you wonder how people get reputations..
just saying
