Oh ***. Oh ***oh ***oh ***.

Clearly that plant failing doesn't need to happen, I think Japan has had enough Nuclear explosions or such for the earth's existance.

Well the plants are designed to be ready for Earthquakes, just not one this strong.

This says 88,000 people are missing currently. I imagine this number will increase.

Oh god this is awful.....

And you know, seeing this kinda stuff happening in the last few years (Katrina, Haiti and now Japan) Makes me start to feel this end of the world stuff at 2012 a bit more seriously.

I hope I don't offend anyone here by saying this, but I will be praying for the people of Japan and nearby islands. I hope you do the same...

And thats the main point... Japan knows that they are prime targets for these kind of events... which is why most of their buildings, if not all of them are earthquake proof... the quake though was just to to powerful, plus then the tsunami to boot...
its the second largest quake in Japans history... (9.2 mag) was the worst.

Just heard a short while ago too, that they only had 10-15min of warning before the quake hit, then no warning for the tsunami

1841 GMT: The situation at the nuclear reactor at Fukushima seems to be worsening. Japanese authorities are now to release radioactive vapour to ease pressure, AP news agency reports. Engineers are trying to fix the cooling system to the main reactor, damaged in the quake.

Edit: After the quake, Japan was aware of the Tsunami in 3 minutes, but it only took 10 minutes for it to reach the coastline.

I know what you mean, but if you just look at natural incidents in the last 5-7 years, it has been pretty bad for random regions of the world

And you remember Solar Flare that happened a few weeks ago, hit around the Pacific?

Because it's a BBC Feed, it would normally be region coded, so only people with a UK IP Address could view it. But, they have lifted that restriction for obvious reasons.

This is a sad event, and although I do not believe in the big man upstairs, my prayers go out to all those involved. Another very sad thing is the amount of absolute scum and trolls on Asura who have been cracking jokes and talking smack about the event, while the death toll is still rising. I only feel shame for such people.
Yes, I completely agree. Edit: Yes Degs.

Yeh I kept out of port jeuno because I saw that kinda ***comming...

I'm not someone who prays but my heart goes out to anyone and everyone who lives in the areas or has friends/family there.

It's just kids that aren't mature enough to understand what is happening yet, and as such haven't developed compassion for others yet.

Had no idea that the BBC web site had those kind of restrictions implemented
