I'm going to be honest. I hate US media. They do nothing but instill panic in people over everything.

they know how to move the masses into corners and make them ***their pants.

From what I understand, the Fukushima Daiichi plant was actually scheduled to be dismantled and replaced with a more modern one later this month.

So I imagine that's still the plan! There's just a whooooole lot more zeroes now added to the bill.

I don't know crap about them, but I do expect to see a major review of nuclear plants around the world. That being said, I don't foresee nuclear power being decreased after this.

Police aren't the only ones on patrol since the earthquake hit. Members of the Yakuza, Japan's organized crime syndicate, have also been enforcing order. All three major crime groups—the Yamaguchi-gumi, the Sumiyoshi-kai, and the Inagawa-kai—have "compiled squads to patrol the streets of their turf and keep an eye out to make sure looting and robbery doesn't occur," writes Jake Adelstein, author of Tokyo Vice: An American Reporter on the Police Beat in Japan, in an e-mail message. "The Sumiyoshi-kai claims to have shipped over 40 tons of [humanitarian aid] supplies nationwide and I believe that's a conservative estimate."

One group has even opened its Tokyo offices to displaced Japanese and foreigners who were stranded after the first tremors disabled public transportation. "As one Sumiyoshi-kai boss put it to me over the phone," says Adelstein, " 'In times of crisis, there are not Yakuza and civilians or foreigners. There are only human beings and we should help each other.' " Even during times of peace, the Yakuza enforce order, says Adelstein. They make their money off extortion, prostitution, and drug trafficking. But they consider theft or violent crime against innocent civilians to be grounds for expulsion.

Even if these values are correct they ARE still risking their lives. Anytime the situation can get worse and there is no Starship Enterprise there to beam them out.

Fox has spent several hours over the last few days implying that Obama somehow caused the disaster, and/or is intentionally letting it get worse, in order to stoke political resistance to nuclear energy.

But anyway, I think most of these ppl just want to "help". But reality is much more brutal. The engineers working there are no dumbasses. I won't state their decisions are natural the right ones, but I make a bet EVERY idea written here was already considered (if its not like "Lets D2 the core" xD)

It's expected really.. This is why I'm glad if Rupert Murdoch gets his way and succeeds in taking over one of the biggest providers over here in the UK the Government have told him if he is to have any hope he has to dissolve or sell the News part of their central network... The highest that detected radiation has gotten at the power plant in question was a brief spike to 400 mSv during a hydrogen explosion.

It's remained around 2-10 mSv at the front gate for most of the time.

(It should be noted that they got their percent decimal place math wrong in one of the footnotes, but it doesn't change the chart.)

Would a extended period of time around the plant do anymore damage than that chart mentions though?

I've lost count of how many are referring to Obama "playing golf" and "working on his NCAA bracket" while Japan is in crisis.

Megyn Kelly and Fox & Friends were particularly direct about it, running footers asking "Questions about Obama's Response to Crisis," Neil Cavuto had on Donald who did the same, Hannity mentioned it in passing and drew the connection to anti-nuclear environmentalists, etc.

Quick, lets take everything out of context and give vague non-existent connections between what is happening now and what is perceived to be happening!

Fox news is about as legit as The Onion; except not funny.

I won't question that chart (although these are statistic values and statisics, um, well, you can always bend them in a way you want them without actually lying).
