That would be bad, but I'm watching a live feed and we're still waiting to hear from Edano. I just called, and friends in Tokyo report no sirens.

Who is your source?

Yes.

Why do you ask Chaos?
To be honest, I was thinking of the Simpsons episode where Homer wrestles the emperor and thought, "I haven't heard of an emperor in the media that I could remember."

Combined with all this excess coverage of England's prince getting married.

We must be watching very different news conferences.

Edano and the TEPCO guys are saying the radiation level outside the plant is 600-800 micro Sv, the "radiation spike" was on the level of 2 milli Sv, and that there is no recommended increase in the evacuation area.

Staff has been moved out of the reactor itself while they investigate the source of the "white smoke," which appears to be coming from reactor #3 and may be steam, but nobody was "forced out" by any new flood of radiation.

And there are still no "sirens" in Tokyo.

I know CNN's still spouting the whole "Second worst next to Chernobyl" garbage and its making my head hurt. NHK English and the BBC reports exactly what you've just posted, Jaerik.

The article backs up my point.

The peak radiation measured at the plant itself is undeniably high and worth worrying about, especially if it stays at 400 mSv/hr. While not an immediate health issue, it would be potentially bad for any workers spending a significant amount of time within the reactor building if they didn't have adequate radiation protection. Which they have.

But there are no citizens within 20km of that plant anymore and haven't been for days. There is no appreciable measurable amount of radiation in Tokyo. And your "worse case scenario" comparisons to Chernobyl and implication that hundreds of thousands or millions of people are a hair's breadth away from instant death is shockingly irresponsible. I'm removing you from the thread.

Hmm, according to http://www3.nhk.or.jp/news/genpatsu-fukushima/, it briefly hit around 10 mili's around 10:40, but was down to 2 mili's within half an hr. Looks like they did back them off because of this but they were back to work once the radiation was stable again looks like.
