We have Chernobyl and now possibly this (I am optimistic about it at the moment) causing people to say no to nuclear power. And it's still better than being an Air-Traffic controller. Well Yah, It's kinda sad when you are less preferential to high levels of radiation! @BBCBreaking via Twitter said: 1057: Japan's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency says serious damage to the nuclear reactor container is unlikely despite the explosion at the Fukushima-Daiichi plant - Kyodo news. Let's hope that's true. At this point, to say I'm skeptical is putting it a bit generously. I was going to bed 3hrs ago, but I wanted to see what the *** actually happened with that explosion. Seems like I'd have to wait another 3 to find out, so *** it.

Lol BBC news does phrase things interestingly though.... Like you can click "Why so big?" To get Quake was "big even for Japan"
Looking more and more like just a steam explosion and no fuel release. Radiation lvls aren't that bad I mean they still got people there at the plant working and monitoring things.
@BBCBreaking via Twitter said: 1122: A full quote from Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano's press conference: "As reported, we have been informed that there was some kind of an explosive phenomenon at Fukushima No 1 nuclear power plant, although it has yet to be confirmed whether [the explosion] was that of a nuclear reactor itself. At present, after the talks among political party heads held a while ago, government officials including the prime minister and the minister of economy, trade, and industry, along with experts, are making all-out efforts to get hold of and analyse the situation, and to take measures." @BBCBreaking via Twitter said: 1125: Chief Cabinet Secretary Edano also said that the current level of radioactivity at the power plant was "within the range that was anticipated" when it was decided that steam would be vented from the reactor to release pressure. I'm gonna call it a night. Here's the BBC feed again in-case anyone who missed it before wants to follow along. Daleterrence was posting them earlier yesterday, maybe he'll pick it back up again today, or anyone else who wants to can take over.

Photos showing the devastation in some areas of Japan. ; ; Odin.Zicdeh said: Are they still experiencing aftershocks? I'm in Osaka at the moment and we're relatively unaffected. I work in teleconferencing and a guy I spoke to in Chiba about 20 minutes ago is still feeling tremors every 20-30 minutes or so. Regarding the BBC, the British media loves hyperbole, so it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of this was blown ridiculously out of proportion. The NHK and other Japanese news agencies seem to be conflicting at the moment. I had hoped for better news when I woke up this morning. I have to say that I am extremely impressed at how calm the people of Japan are. I think we could all take a lesson from this. This is a truly horrible event, on the scale of Katrina and other disasters we've experienced. However, I think we all need to take heart that the death toll is so low. It's horrid that people have died, but it's a relatively low number considering the sheer destruction which has occurred.

So forgive my ignorance on the matter, but will the nuclear fallout have any effect on the USA if ***gets bad?

I know. You don't see that level of preparedness here in the U.S. I live in Ohio. We have minor earthquakes occasionally that really go unnoticed. But if we were to have some major event such as this, everyone would panic, looting would ensue, and nothing would be accomplished. It's inspiring honestly to see how well-prepared they seem to have been and how well they seem to be handling everything. I saw a map showing nuclear fallout if the plant melted down that showed it reaching the US and some people on the german news were saying it was possible it could have large effects on other countries, but my lack of knowledge into the matter left me unaware if it was real or media hype. |
