Eval is a php language construct which takes in one argument, a string representing php code. So code can be coming from a script/file/database and be passed into it. It can be useful for something like VBulletin to let administrators or plugin writers have alot of power. As a bonus, if the code in eval fails, it doesn't disrupt execution. The downside is it can be a potential security risk and can be commonly used as a backdoor web shell. It could make code confusing too.

In-case you're not aware most MMOs work off the idea of making the players strive for the "best" gear(inturn forcing them to spend more time (time=money), and once a large amount of people have that gear guess what happens... New, even better stuff comes out!
