It's mostly a tool used by Karma bombing *** to make them feel a little better about themselves, but occasionally, a (Notably) high score can point to good stories/bits of info, ect. On the flipside, a super low score is often the equivalent of the Ghosts' laser designator, which pinpoints targets that are likely lolcows ripe for the milking.

I think we should make it that if your rate downs in a post exceed 5 (or some other number) the forum would automatically delete your post!
And if you get three (or some other number) posts removed in a thread you get topic banned.

Rate downs/up are fine how they are. The nice thing about rate downs/up is it allows you to gauge the communities response to your post, that way after you post some super ***, illogical, incoherent paragraph about why Nazis are great, or whatever stupid/unfunny thing you type, you can see how much you're failing. Conversely, it allows you to see when urdoinitrite.

That's why I said or some number because a fair system can be worked out. I was just throwing some numbers out there. Something like -30 ratedowns to remove a post, along with 10 of those in the same thread to be topic banned is arguably more reasonable.
But yeah your right the block button suffices and my suggestion is far too complex and favors popular vote.
Personally, I find some amusement when trolls post and I have nothing against Draylo, Elanabelle (or however you spell his name), Stanflame, or any other infamous troll posting here in these forums.

Agreed, and furthermore (if I may add to your post), it saves the reader some time. For example if I say a huge wall of text with -10 ratedowns I typically don't read it. Same goes with videos in the Pics that make you LOL thread, if I see a 10 minute video with 0 ratings or even ratedowns I won't waste my time with it. On the other hand, if posts are rated up then they more or less likely deserve consideration.
