I'd tend to agree with Don House II. MLK was about equality--while he did seem to be moving towards a more militant stance at the time of his death (and seemingly Malcolm X more towards a moderate stance) that did seem to be his view/hope for race relations...that of a normalisation.

Wilson is a moron and misses the point of Obama being the first black president.

While she missed it to one extreme have I missed it to the other? Should black people hold more pride in him than I?

She used the term "it's a blacc thang"... she said thang.. Really? And her words ending in ck were ended with "cc". That was really odd. And how can another race not understand? Can nobody else sympathize whatsoever with African Americans? Wtf is that? Also Obama is African American (at least partially), she can get over the "he isn't blacc" thing.

I don't think so. I guess they can play that race card if they want to though. Just as it's used negatively, I'm sure it can be used positively. Idk, I'm just tryin to make heads or tails of the whole thing really.

To me, I would judge his virtues by his actions and thoughts. For certain, Jesse Jackson was a DNC front-runner for many years yet I don't honestly think he'd have made a great president even if his nomination/election would have been as historic.

Even Jackson's "private" reaction towards Obama when winning in 2008 showed a lot of his character as a person. To me, at least, that transcends issues of racial representation.

I try to avoid race as much as humanly possible. To me, that has no bearing on situations, and really the concept of one race being better than another is an archaic form of controlling the masses. That being said, racism isn't over. Not by a long shot. That viewpoint is hard to let go by some more ignorant people, and there are still places where people not of caucasian descent dare not tread.

This being said, at the same time these people have been subjugated for years. And yeah, many people haven't seen any of the oppression brought upon by them, but there are those that have, and some that continue to deal with it on regular occasions. It's appalling that such a thing ever existed, but I for one choose not to ignore it. Instead, I embrace any people despite race or creed as human beings, because that's what we all are. I won't give differential treatment to any person of any race, but at the same time I understand that people have been oppressed, and to that I just hope that I'll get to live long enough to see where perhaps such a thing doesn't exist.

As a interracial person myself. These lines are always being forced to me actually on a personal level. I'm part black myself but if I ever dare to refer to myself as otherwise I get the ***kicked out of me and constantly told. "Embrace yourself, black people had soo much done to them etc-"

Your point was valid why can't one just embrace a person for being that. Not that he's "African American" and not "Black American" I often find myself confused as to why we still label people as such. If you're American you're American. End of story. But I guess it isn't as simple as that for some people.

As for the pride aspect to it. No as a country we should all be proud. We managed to show the world ;yes our country is made up of all races. If you want to be something in this place you can. It's not just a white boys club anymore. I think it gave hope not to just African Americans but Asian Americans Etc.

Its going to be an individual answer on pride but when black people typically enjoy the lowest overall ranking in society with regards to just about anything that isnt song, sport, dance or ending up in prison it is uplifting to see centuries of wrongdoing start to move contrary to the preconcieved destiny of the race with an election of a guy like Obama who bucks the stereotypes.

Well, I'm talking about people here, not evil furry demons with malice in their eyes and claws that match the sharpness of their fangs...

I know too much of this subject being a little mutt as I call myself. I have had first hand racist remakes from my own family. On my black side at gathers distant relatives call me "The hispanic one" I'm always called out for it. Why I have no idea. If I recall I was just as much family as them.

Same for my Spanish side. My grandmother cursed the ground I walked on because I was "Too black looking" for her. It drives me insane that in this current world we still have these social stigmas of race. It's baffling to say the least.

I think until the day we can all see ourselves as human beings and not just races. That's when we'll quit having these needless discussions of whom is what race and this is why they do this and so on. Like ugh don't get me started this could go on for ever. Haha.
