If you level WAR, DRK, MNK, SAM or DRG there's not an awful lot to understand providing you know what the abilities do and what gear you should be aiming for. I'd say the same about BRD now that merit parties are extinct.
Alternatively, you could fish until one of the new jobs come out and then have people who have been playing it for a day or two talk down to you for doing it wrong, like I had a DNC do the day after it was released. =)

Well there's 20 jobs, there's a high chance you'll find another you'll like! Just make sure it's not RDM and you should be able to do things with people.
