As someone who has never played any Silent Hill game, watching that video, it sounds like the HD version has much better voicework. The original one sounded uninspired, like the actors doing the work were bored or something.
They were supposed to sound off and more real as opposed to dramatized. Every character int he game, save for Laura are all deeply mentally disturbed people.

I'll admit the voice actors for the HD collection are good voice actors (Eddie's aside anyway) and the original VA's will readily admit it too. But commercial voices what weren't what the original creators had been after.

But I get that's from me understanding the series and not looking on from the outside.
