RPGs in general don't exactly have high replay value unless they stuff it to the gills with extra side quest content and other little easter eggs like they did with XII and XIII-2. However, the majority of it's replay value I would say is playing it for the second or third time to simply fully comprehend what happened. Similar to movies that are all over the place and difficult to comprehend the first time around. Read: Memento.
Well Chrono Trigger had like 8 endings lol. That game was dope. FF4 and 6 were great to replay cuz the story was so dope.

Then I suppose for someone like you, Chrono Cross would have high replay value, because there are many vague lines and connections between that and Trigger, many of which can easily go overlooked, and *** with your head when they click in your head. Other times it's muddled and quite frustrating when you're on the verge of figuring everything out. But yeah, together they make one fantastic saga, even if it does turn your, ie: my, brain into scrambled eggs.

I like random battles (not every other step) cuz it forces me to grind and level up.. when I can see the monsters I usually just avoid them to get to the next cutscene or story progression point. Or I see a big *** monster and charge/die. :x

Perhaps it's all perspective, but I notice that they tend to happen more frequently, or otherwise become more annoying and consistent when you have a set objective that requires a long distance to traverse. Besides, taking out random battles helps make even something as menial as grinding for exp feel more like a "hunt", where you actually find your prey rather than simply running into them on a dime every 5-10 seconds.
