basically what i said, except i dont really need the newsal because the only use i have for the original sal is calculating the first raise (or being the sentinel value)
though i was wondering if there was a way to possibly convert it into a nested loop structure, that way when the sentinel value is inputted it wont go through the calculations and just end the program.

Start with an if statement, checking to see if sal is 0. If it's not, do the calculations.
