New computer would mean bigger screen, bigger FFXI + screen recording, and less crappy keyboard. also wierd "I just bought something nice" fuzzy feeling
New glasses would mean looking better, reading better far away, and having a pair of prescription sunglasses to style on people with. (2 pair deals ftw)
Lookin' at about $500, more if I wait until tax return, or just save a little more and quit being so impatient.
You're not going to get much of a new computer for $500.. Either save til you got more, or spend it on glasses.

My main concern was just getting something better than my current one. Thinking of a desktop so I can upgrade it as I get more $$$.
You're still not going to get much, you're basically wasting your money, any desktop you got would probably be filled with inferior components. There's no point in spending 500 on something when you're basically just going to replace every component in it.
I'm just trying to offer advice.. I mean you buy a desktop, then later on you decide you wanna upgrade the video card, but the PSU that came in your desktop can't support the card, so then you need a new PSU as well.. Then you decide you wanna upgrade the RAM, and either you can't just expand on it (I.E. all the RAM slots are taken up, so the only choice is to buy bigger/better RAM) or you have extra slots but you can easily double the amount of RAM you're getting with a few extra dollars, so now you've removed the video card, the PSU and the RAM, you have a motherboard, a cooling system, a CPU and a case left original..
Next, you're still not really getting the performance you wanted, and you figure out it's being bottlenecked by your CPU, so you need to replace that, with that means a new cooling system, now you have a motherboard and a case left.
You can get a much, much better motherboard and case with 500 than what you could buy as a full system.
Well, this is true, but isn't there a limit to the usefulness of endless power? What if I only have certain expectations? To be fair though, I thought the same thing when I bought this crappy laptop.
Unless your pc crashes once an hour from a fried/dead/old cpu and only has half a gig of ram, I think you'd be better off saving up and hoping to buy a bundle deal.

Truth be told, I have a money spending problem. Not that I *need* a new computer it's just the thought of buying one that excites me.
I have a Gateway MD2614u (bought 2 years ago for $570)
2.1GHz AMD Athlon x2
ATI Radeon 3200HD
4GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Ultimate 64
15.6" screen
250GB HD
Every time I see 'gateway' I sorta mentally cringe.
Perhaps it's just from using some of their shittier stuff a few years ago, as I haven't in a while but.. :(
I do that about Dell.. Those *** are evil.. Multiple computers of theirs I've seen, they RIVET the *** case shut... It doesn't matter how clean your house is, a computer builds up dust and dust is VERY bad, they need to be cleaned every 3-6 months MINIMUM. It's like they bank off of idiots who don't know why their computer is acting like ***after 6 months.
I always build my computers. I have a primary desktop that I use for everything, and then I have my secondary. Whenever I upgrade my primary, the old parts go into the secondary.
250GB, holy ***.. I have 1TB.. And even now it's coming down to getting nothing new or deleting ***to make room.
I noticed yesterday in Best Buy that even laptops have at minimum 500GB nowadays.
It's okay though, I have 130GB free still, and have 2 external drives, a 500GB (273GB free: games, movies, music, pictures) and a 320GB (Wii ISOs and FAT32 partition for Wii USBLoader)

That's because you are a rat pack >:
I'm hearing good things about them solid hard drives but they are much smaller :S
It actually has more to do with my piracy than anything, I like to give back at least what I have taken, but at the same time, the longer you spend uploading, the more likely you are to get caught, so movies/games/shows/music I might ever want in the future, I keep. If a game is ***, or a movie is ***, I delete it almost instantly.
I have 1 TB (nearly) of ***that I just can't part with because at some point in the future I'll want to use it again.
I was saving for a 2TB network drive (ethernet) but now that my internet is slow as sin there's really no point. I don't download anything big enough to care about transfer speed anymore.
I have a sizable porn stash, but the vast majority of my harddrive is .ISOs for games and TV shows/movies.. My porn collection doesn't hold a candle to the movies/games/tv shows portion of my harddrive.

Lol, 14GB here, assorted pics/movies, half of it has been there for God knows how long.

Are you talking about a local one? Or a 'cloud' drive?
If it's local, then your internet speed doesn't affect it since it would be on your side of the modem.
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
