There wasnt numbers in the article so I dont know if the supposed "overpopulation" is due to new/returning players or it is just that SE last content became such a bottleneck that the overall server capacity is greatly reduced.
I also dont jnow if I consider this something seasonal or something persistent
My intuition says it is just server capacity to host players is reduced to the point they had to resort to locking it down.

They are effectively advertising the game for free, if the core messaging is positive it doesn't matter. Core messaging = game popular.

That's okay, it's not shameful to admit you have genre preference. It's not okay to use "quality" to bash other games outside of your genre preference though.
