They get busy aruging over which weapon is worth picking & trashing others' choices. Because what's FFXI without arguing over every little detail in the endless quest of absolute theoritical efficiency! Same old discussions since VW days lol But this is people talking video games on the internet, what else to expect? Welp I haven't logged into FFXI for like....3 years? Didn't log in during past free campaign either. This time I did logged in, got my boots +1 and the weapon. I honestly wanted boot +1 more than the weapon because free 3k TP for parse competition. But I picked up the weapon since it's free anyways. Then I immediately logged off. It is kinda nostalgia to travel to different locations for boots KI for the +1, but nostalgia is not strong enough to make me resub unfortunately. I made my choice on the weapon immediately, I thought it's an easy choice without needing an internet argument. Not because the weapon is game changing in one particular endgame content or something, but because COR only has 2 options and one of the is noticably worse(function wise) than another lol. Maybe one day I'll finally resub and do melee only self light with melee buffs since it has been my FFXI dream for years. Ow noo

FFXI is not on maintenance mode anymore, Fujito specially said this. People really don't know what the world maintenance means I guess. They are not ultimate weapons, they are very fun toys. Making people happy on an anniversary is a good thing, and this years was massively successful cause it peaked interest. People on XIAH are mostly serious endgame players, and it makes them happy to argue about stuff like this. It's not negative, people are having fun. Even if having fun is arguing about the tier of the toys. This is like wow adding a new raid, and going to a serious endgame discord and asking why people are arguing about a strategy instead of just having fun. Maybe one day I'll finally resub and do melee only self light with melee buffs since it has been my FFXI dream for years. It's been over 11 years for me. Only subbed for a month or two in 2016 to finish RoV, and moved to Bahamut in 2019 (not sure if I had to pay for an active sub). Other than that, I logged in during a few fre periods to do random nostalgic stuff, and work slowly on my DRK weapons & AFs. Had a few friends actively playing last year but I couldn't be bothered to join them tbh (surprisingly it was private servers that drove them to retail after a longer hiatus than mine, go figure) RadialArcana said: » Most mmorpgs are around 20 years old, this is not abnormal. Not on maintenance mode anymore.. meaning it was? For how long? And has Fujito's statement been reflected on actual additions to the game? And to say on one hand that these weapons are "just fun toys" (downplaying them) while at the same time justifying all the endless arguing (& name-calling) over them with being "serious endgame players" isn't making sense. There is fun in having discussions and then there is that. And that's why the WoW example isn't relevant. Ragnarok.Zeig said: » Other MMOs are irrelevant here. FFXI is old and lost most of its players, and hasn't been getting frequent worthwhile updates. That's the point. Not on maintenance mode anymore.. meaning it was? For how long? There is fun in having discussions and then there is that. And that's why the WoW example isn't relevant. They are perfectly relevant, I told you they are all around the same age (and those that are not, will get to be) and so age of the game means nothing. As to players, so has every other mmorpg that exists. Every mmorpg that is running has lost most of its players. FFXI has been on maintenance mode twice and it happens after every story addition it seems, they changed their mind both times within a few months of stating it to the press. Yes they have been adding things to the game for the past year and are about to add more, because people are assigned to the game to make things for it. You don't add new things to a game on maintenance mode. Maintenance means, you add NOTHING and just keep it working as it is. None of these weapons are BiS, they have invigorated interest in arguing about them. Which people like to do here. People are having fun, they enjoy what they are doing. Quit bitching, you're acting like an old woman. To be fair, the minority here on the forums, myself included, do not represent the entire XI fan base, small or large as it is.
More passionate, for one. Way way higher on the spectrum compared to the average player. I wouldn't give the heated discussions much clout, that's just.. Thursday. Quote: This was discussed before FFXI's 20th anniversary, but 2024 was the year when FFXI updates would end and there was a good chance that we would move into a so-called "maintenance mode" where we would only maintain the system. FFXI went into Maintenance Mode March 2023 Anyways, no where in there does it suggest that shutting down FFXI was the the likely decision. It was an option on the table among multiple options. For people that don't see how XI operates.
Every year the producer has to have a meeting with the management (the developers / producer don't get the money we pay for the game, that goes to the company), and if the meeting goes well it gets full funding to pay all costs for for the entire year following. If the management are skittish about something, they do not want to fully fund the game for the full year and so they give a lower amount to keep the game running and little else. If they give a lower amount, this means the game is stated as going into maintenance mode by the producer. You can state it as a hibernation period. This has happened twice: Once when they ended PS2 support (they thought all the JP players were going to quit, they just bought a pc) and the second time was when Matsui left and they had little confidence in Fujito. Once they see the thing they were worried about doesn't happen, they get full funding the next year again and maintenance mode is then over. Directors are always going to claim responsibility for positive things. I am sure there are a few unsung engineers keeping the lights on behind the scenes.

Old age is a precipitating factor for plenty of health issues. The rest just sounds like massive copium. It's alright, you can enjoy playing FFXI (I am atm). But you don't need to get riled up when someone calls it "a 23 y/o game on maintenance mode" and try so hard to disprove that as if it's receiving regular, significant updates like, say, FFXIV. Nobody said anything about XI shutting down, they just said they were deciding 3+ years ago if they were going to buy all new servers to carry the game on another 10+ years and if it was worth doing that and they decided yes.
We just had the 23rd anniversary, this discussion was on the 20th anniversary. Yeah, he is definitively part of the evil FFIAH triunvirate:
1. Rady 2. Alfania 3; Nynja The RAN He just misses getting tempbanned from RT so hard that he is being a tryhard troll.
Probably will make his day if he can get others banned along with him. They are equating maintenance mode to shutting down, they are not the same thing. They stated no more updates after VR ended, but changed their mind for the reason I said above. Its Typical zoomers mentality thinking internet discussions as something you can "win" or "lose".
In a world where perception triumphs over reality, there isnt any measure to define what is a "win" or a "lose". This just turn pointless carrying this mentality when interacting with someone. And IMO, you only win when you avoid conflict. Peace triumphso over pyrric win. At least for civilizated humans and dogs. |
