The primary SE account could retweet it for better visibility, but no one who doesn't play XI cares about XI news. So of course they aren't going to see it.

That's literally all they'd have to do, though. Retweet some FFXI news, even have Yoshida or some official XIV stuff retweet it. Have it visible on a few other social media networks as well. It's not even hard.

Just let people know. If they're interested, they're interested. If they're not, they're not. It's not like it would take any time or money away from fixing their other problems. If literally only 10 people joined, it's still 10 fewer people clogging up the login queue for XIV, and 10 more people who can say they tried FFXI.

They dont even care, not worth it anymore. Apparently XIV is now their most profitable FF game but it cites 24m players so who knows if thats even believable or to create hype for expansion. They created the next minecraft/WoW, that the kiddies can run to for streaming glory, super cool! The worst part is that trash is going to be looked at like some major advancement on gaming history like its the best thing ever. Imagine someone saying XIV is their favorite FF game. Yikes, I'll just retire here, gaming became too main stream.

The implication is that it's worse. But it's not worse, it's different. And it's frustrating because most of them haven't got the slightest clue of what they're talking about.

That's why I was really disappointed that ProJared's review of XI was 25 minutes of him talking about how bad it was in 2005 with an under-his-breath asterisk at the end saying "but it's better now". Some people see him as an authority on the FF franchise, and stuff like that just hurts the game.

Thankfully most of the people on here are mature and respectful when it comes to the differences between the games. But it's really getting under my skin seeing all the XIV-thumpers knocking it when they've never even tried it.

I disagree with both of those statements. But this is the internet and I know it's easy to get into a heated argument because someone states their opinion as objective fact. Especially when such an argument would only serve to irritate both parties involved because we'd both be trying to use facts to change opinions.

Part of me really wishes I had become a psychologist or something. It would be interesting dissecting the science behind forum arguments.

I just mean that it's a bad idea in general to play any MMO, but starting a twenty year old one with really bad UI is the worse option compared to the 5ish year old one with shiney UI.

Both being bad, no one should be starting either. MMOs are time thieves, use your time responsibly.

I dunno. I'd argue we (as a society) should get back into the habit of allowing people to do unproductive things. I carry with me a great conversation I had with a friend, who told me that it doesn't matter how you find enjoyment in life. Go ahead: play that game for the 12th time, binge that favourite show. Immerse yourself in that archaic MMORPG. Is it any more a waste of time to play FFXIV for three hours or watch Return of the King for the fifth time?

lol XIV is almost 12 years old actually, not 5. Regardless of what the supporters wanna say, a lot of ideas and assets are still used from then so I consider it that old. At the least its 8 years old, so both games are OLD.

The worst part is the lack of support and resources XI has gotten yet we all still pay full sub price. To the point its become the butt of a joke... such a shame. Just the worst timeline, where they have neglected it so badly to support XIV, poured countless resources into that game and advertising... Never has a FF game been so strongly advertised before. I can't imagine how much they spent on that.

I really hope for something big in that announcement, or hey maybe they will finally get me off MMOs. There is a huge market for nostalgia and older games being remastered.

Life has/is/was/will always be about making choices with only bad options. Rarely do you get to choose the good one, instead of the least worst (or lessor of bad options)

That's why I roll my eyes whenever one of the XIV-thumpers insult FFXI's graphics. As if the game they're playing wasn't designed for the PS3 - a console one generation newer than what XI was released on - when we're already up to PS5. Most mobile games have higher-quality visuals than both of the FF MMOs.

I saw a review where the alleged reviewer spoke of the trials and tribulations of upgrading the base game with addons and nothing about gameplay at all other than I fought stuffs stuff.

Some on line gaming magazines may be as good as the print ones but I haven't seen it. Individual articles yes.

"Wasting time" is just something boomers say to young people. Should have realized by now that almost everything is a "waste of time" because when you die you aint taking anything with you. You can argue that life experiences are more worthwhile than gaming, but you probably aren't doing those 24/7, its ok to have downtime and use it on things to entertain you in some fashion.

Those articles online are almost always some dumb hipster trying to put a "cool" spin on things to sell a story. They consistently lie, over-exaggerate , etc. There were so many of them that outright said in their title "XI to shut down, ending" only to say in the article that its the console support ending. Just another hipster trying to use a clickbait title to lure in the masses, who will probably still think the game shut down anyway. The worst part of that ProJared thing was that he did it all on a dumb private server... like how silly.

One of the MANY things that killed XIV 1.x was a horrid graphics engine. I guarantee ARR is on a different one.
